I finished this Mon night. I am taking it to my sister to quilt because my longarm still isn' t working right.
My mom volunteered me to make a quilt for My German niece, my parents hosted a foreign exchange student 1981-82 school year. We became very close to her and think of her as our German Sister. She came to my dad's funeral in Feb. Her daughter is a foreign exchange student this year in the same school her mom went. She graduates this month and our sister is coming for the graduation. We are going to have a family get together when she gets here. I made the memory quilt for her with family photos from the funeral. the picture of my parents was from my sister's wedding. Luckily we were able to visit with Kat over X-mas so she became reacquainted with us. She last saw us when she was young. My son and daughter were able to stay with them in Germany when they went on a school trip.

back of the quilt, thought plain yellow would be too bright. used a frolic variation, 9patch and scraps between rows

1st time in 12 years all of the family has been together. 12 years ago was my brother's funeral. 60 plus

Barb M 05-12-2008 09:30 PM

Wow, a beautiful memory quilt! A lot of thought and hard work put into that, so very very nice :)

FancyFoot 05-12-2008 11:21 PM

This quilt is totally awesome. What kind of printer did you use?

reneebobby 05-13-2008 04:12 AM

I just love it and the back is also amazing.

Chele 05-13-2008 04:16 AM

Wow! You did an amazing job! What a treasure.

DA Mayer 05-13-2008 04:27 AM

I have an HP Photosmart C6280 all-in-one that I had to get this year because we had some flooding in the basement and ruined our other printer. I used printed treasure for the cloth transfer paper. I was very happy with the way everything turned out. very little adjustment needed for squaring up. Most of the back pieces were from cuts for the front that I didn't use.

tlrnhi 05-13-2008 04:29 AM

I think you did a fantastic job!
I'm very impressed! I have never seen one as nice as yours!

sandpat 05-13-2008 05:01 AM

Wow! It turned out just beautiful. I'm sure your German niece will just adore it and rightfully so. Terrific job!

sewbusy 05-14-2008 08:27 AM

I just hope that she (niece) will appreciate all the work that you have
put in it. Please post another picture when it's quilted. You do lovely

DA Mayer 05-14-2008 05:08 PM

thank you for all the nice compliments. Most of the material is flannel. sure can tell a difference in quality of fabric.

Elizabeth A. 05-14-2008 06:55 PM

What a great story! It's so nice to hear of great happiness over the great pond... I love how you took the extra time to make the back special especially since that is my current struggle! Great quilt!
