Kaffe Fassett Quilt

2 Attachment(s)
This is a Missouri Star quilt pattern called Connecting Stars. It called for using a charm pack, way too small for me, not a fan of tiny pieces, so I enlarged the pattern to use some of my Kaffe Fassett FQ stash. It was so much fun to make and goes together quickly. I will make this pattern again, but will use my Deb Tucker ruler for the Half Rec units, I lost points here and there but still very happy with the finish.

I decided to use Minky for the backing (for the first time) and it was easy to work with and I am very pleased with the results! I will use it again for special quilts. Quilted a Monstera leaf edge to edge on my Innova using So Fine thread top and bobbin. Thanks for looking!

Really like your quilt, and the quilting panto is one of my favourites!

cathyvv 01-05-2024 10:30 PM

It's beautiful - there is So much color and life in it!

WMUTeach 01-06-2024 05:23 AM

Like the variation to a Wonky Star pattern. Jenny did it again with another interesting pattern, Connecting Stars is the perfect name. Beautiful work with lovely fabric, Tallchick. Missing Points? They are there, just hiding.

QuiltBaer 01-06-2024 05:32 AM

Your quilt is so pretty! Your beautiful quilting really pops in the minky.

Onebyone 01-06-2024 05:36 AM

It is a beautiful quilt.

GingerK 01-06-2024 06:16 AM

Hi Tallchick. Thanks for posting your beautiful quilt and giving the pattern name. It looks like another great scrap buster. I looked at the MSQ youtube for the runner using the same pattern and agree--that's a whole pile of much too little pieces! If I may ask, how much did you upsize? What was the finished size of your block?

Karamarie 01-06-2024 06:29 AM

Very nice - so eye catching!

I used 3.5 inches for the HST and squares and 3.5 x 6.5 for the HRT, and the block finishes at 9.5. I chose a 8x10 layout and it finished at a generous twin. I used all FQ’s as I could not get it to work well with a layer cake when I was graphing it out.

Love your quilt and really like the polka dot binding.

toverly 01-06-2024 07:35 AM

Love your Kaffe quilt. I have a stash of FQ in Kaffe also. They are special. Minky is great for a backing. I have gotten to where I like it almost better than batting and backing. It definitely comes out cost effective and quick with J's sales on the stuff. If you haven't made a clam up bag yet with Kaffe. It's perfect for those large prints.

KalamaQuilts 01-06-2024 08:09 AM

ooooOOOOOoooo loverly! I started a scrappy Kaffe with leftovers from a kit, but it sputtered to a stop when I ran out of fabric :)

cashs_mom 01-06-2024 08:09 AM

I love this quilt! Stars and lots of color (especially Kaffe) are my favs. This quilt has both in abundance.

dunster 01-06-2024 09:04 AM

I like this! I have been looking for patterns that can make use of scraps, and this one goes on the list. Yours is just gorgeous.

Peckish 01-06-2024 09:24 AM

Wow, this is gorgeous!!! I love that you used white, so many people pair Kaffe prints with black, which is also nice. I think the white pulls the quilt more into pastel range. Ok, putting this one on my bucket list, which is already 3 miles long. Thanks a lot. Lol.

Monale 01-06-2024 09:30 AM

What a great pattern! I like the not-so traditional irregular way the stars look. A beautiful quilt!

SusieQOH 01-06-2024 09:46 AM

Lisa, I love this!! I love anything Kaffe and that pattern is wonderful. Another beauty from you!

GingerK 01-06-2024 09:47 AM

Thanks so much for the info, Tallchick! I had been thinking 4 inch finished HST's which would make the HRT's 4x8 finished....going back to check my scraps and my figuring....

materialworld 01-06-2024 12:22 PM

Love your quilt too! Nice work.

copycat 01-07-2024 04:14 AM

Sew Beautiful! The minky looks so cuddly!

EmiliasNana 01-07-2024 05:00 AM

What a gorgeous scrap buster. I have been using minky more and more, especially on comfort quilts and baby quilts. Glad it worked for you on your long arm. I spray baste and quilt on my Tiara, which works great for that knit fabric too.

lindaschipper 01-07-2024 07:26 AM

Oh tallchick....I'm in love with your quilt and I don't even like Kaffe Fasset fabric, I never would have chosen it for a quilt. Maybe this tells me how little I really know....LOL

Minnesewta-sam 01-07-2024 07:47 AM

I love your colorful quilt! Thanks for sharing!

Sync 01-07-2024 10:03 AM

Wonderful quilt, lovely colors.

RedGarnet222 01-07-2024 01:01 PM

What a pretty quilt! The fabrics are so interesting and complex. It made for such a pretty quilt..
You girls are so brave to be using minky for backing. I made a little jacket for a baby once and it was all over the sewing room and actual fuzzies flying around in the air. I vowed off minky for that reason. But the little pink lined jacket came out so cute.

Macybaby 01-08-2024 09:41 AM

Love the pattern! I'll be keeping it in mind for a future scrap quilt.

ekuw 01-08-2024 09:58 AM

Scrappy, stars, beautiful fabrics...what's not to like? Thanks for your feedback on using minky for the back. Have never tried it myself. I quilt on a DSM so that's part of the reason, but you don't know till you try right?

sewbizgirl 01-08-2024 10:14 AM

What a gorgeous, gorgeous quilt! I love your Kaffe selections and use with white. Your work is always so beautiful!

Maureen NJ 01-09-2024 07:48 PM

Your quilt is beautiful. Thanks for giving us all the specifics.

Rff1010 01-10-2024 03:11 AM

I know this pattern. LOVE it in the Kaffe! Can you post some best practices for working with minky??

Cam's gram 01-10-2024 04:47 AM

It's beautiful!

Trapunta 01-11-2024 08:43 AM

Tallchick great pattern choice and really superb fabric choices. Wonderful quilt. Congratulations. I really love it.

Did you notice that the original pattern has a “mistake” in the bottom right hand star? One of the points is not attached. Don’t know why they did that.

I noticed it right away, it jumped out at me immediately. Lol. Oh well - makes me feel better knowing even the "professionals" mess up sometimes. 😁

Great job! Really Love to work with Fasset fabrics -- all are so colorful

pennyhal2 01-19-2024 10:43 AM

What a great quilt! I really enjoyed seeing it. I would have gotten confused putting it all together. The fabric choices are so peaceful to me.

somoquilter 01-19-2024 03:11 PM

Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing.

Jannie 01-19-2024 08:20 PM

Your quilt is beautiful. I watched Missouri Star video on this quilt. It made it look doable. Did you use the LocBloc rulers she had or just regular rulers to square up?
