I did a quilt for my new granddaughter Katelynn. It is a twin size as she already has enough of the smaller size quilts & blankets. It still needs the binding but I have to wait until IKEA gets more of the red in until I can finish. They don't order more until they sell a huge box full of assorted children's textiles & unfortunately they don't sell the children's textiles online or I'd try to get it from a different store (we have one IKEA store in Oregon). I guess it's not a huge rush as she is not going to be in a twin bed for quite some time. She is only one month old. LOL

The quilt is hanging outside from my rain gutters (using hangers with clips). My husband is standing behind it trying to keep the wind from making it wiggle. It helped a little. LOL

Really cute. I kept looking at the picture and then saw the legs out the side and realized the photo was sideways. Sometimes, it takes a while for things to registerfor me! :?

It's just adorable! You'll have to post a pic of your GD when she gets the quilt.

sewjoyce 06-20-2009 01:08 PM

What a darling print! You did an absolutely wonderful job with it!

I didn't know IKEA has fabric. There's a store in Berkeley on the way to my sister and another in South Sacramento on way to my daughter so maybe I'll stop at one. I dunno though, maybe I should call it first; I really don't think they have fabric here.

Madquilter... do you know about the Sacramento store?

That is a really cute quilt! I love the fussy cut squares!
I was so focused on the quilt that I didn't even see the legs!!

I love that it will go through her growing up years and won't be put away when she is no longer an infant.

This is one of the cutest quilts I have seen in a long time! You did a lovely job! Is it piecing and embroidery or is there some applique on there too? It is so cute!
Thanks Loretta, No applique or embroidery was used. The material with the characters was fussy cut to put all the cute little characters in the quilt. I used my scraps to bring in all the colors for the borders. The red material & the material with characters on the front & back of the quilt are from IKEA. They sell limited children's textile material in bundles of about 2 yards approx. (can't remember for sure but that's about right).

Great colors and such a different style! I especially like the diamond squares - your own design?

I had to laugh when you said she was only 1 month old. I have a feeling she will be very spoiled, lol.

Thanks! I decided to set the squares on point so that it would show the critters a little better without cutting them off. I chose a border that would incorporate all the colors that are used in the material with the critters. I chose a Pinwheel star block that I really liked to bring in more of the colors into the quilt. I guess when it comes to my granddaughter I wanted it to be very special. We are supposed to spoil them, right? Isn't that our job? LOL

Very cute! That novelty fabric is darling!

juneeloonee 06-23-2009 02:56 AM

Very cute! Lucky little girl. I, too, like your quilting. I use that quite often since we got our new Tin Lizzie. Sometimes I do that pattern but throw a reverse heart on the other side of the heart and it makes a butterfly!

beachlady 06-23-2009 03:03 AM

That is so darn cute. No Ikea's in Maine, but I did not know they carried fabric. Will have to check it out when I visit my kids.

lgeorge 06-23-2009 03:31 AM

What a beautiful quilt and the fabric is just great.

I may have to find my way to Boston to the Ikea (that is the closest to me now) I am not sure I ever noticed their fabric!

Kellie G 06-23-2009 09:09 AM

Beautiful quilt....I love the bright colors.

sewmom 06-24-2009 07:46 AM

Beautiful quilt!! love the quilting, colors, print and the pattern for the pinwheel stars. I'm thinking-how in the world was that pieced? Was it 2HST pieced together with a larger HST? anywhoo it's absolutely gorgeous. i see that you love to pamper your grandaughter as much as i do my grandsons.

Lisa T 06-24-2009 08:28 AM
