I tried the light to medium to dark and I think it's working. I wanted to lay it out to see what direction to head next. So--more darker greens to expand that line, then to move to green/blue to end in darker blues is the plan. I used some of the fabrics for darks in the light squares--for lights in the dark squares. Did you follow that weak explanation?
Here are two angles--can you see the movement? Sometimes I can, sometimes I can't. :? |
looks good...but I don't know exactly what I am supposed to be seeing.
Circles and stars? :?: :?: :?:
I'll find the photo of the original pattern.... be right back... Found it! BUT--I changed something that may be effecting the movement. I changed the small triangles on the corners to dark fabrics rather than light. Here's the difference: I think the change slowed the movement--but that's okay--I needed to do what I needed to do.  |
Looks great, and if you're having difficulty seeing the circles, just squint...
looks pretty awesome to me. love how it is turning out.
I really see the movement on the side with the dark triangles in the corners. But I really like all you have done. :) Keep us posted on it as you finish it.
I see both circles and stars, it's beautiful! Love the water colors. Very nice!
It's looking really lovely!!!
It's lookning great! :)
Karla---I LOVE it!!! I can see the movement AND I love the progression from light to dark you have done.
What size are the blocks? (I know you have probably told us-but I forget :D ) I am trying to get a perspective on the size of the quilt, so far. |
Thanks!
Marcia--they are 8.5" now--so will finish 8". |
Thanks, Karla---it is stunning!!
luv how it moves from light to dark and your color choices :D
Really pretty. Can't wait to see it finished!
Very pretty!!
I keep looking at the circles in the original pattern--but they don't show up in mine. In mine I can see the circles around the stars... but not the circle made from parts of the stars.... such a difference it makes when a small change is made. But, mine looks more like a lake, the original is a pond.
I cut out the strips for my Triple Irish Chain tonight. :D |
That's going to be a really beautiful quilt!!! I can't believe how you see and design things! I love the light to dark, and wouldn't ever have thought of it!
:-) |
Stunning. Love your colors.
Just a minute - you finished your watercolor, started this one, and you cut out another? Do you ever slow down?
Jeepers, you are amazing, barnbum and so is your work. |
Really cool looking quilt Karla. It kind of gets to you as you look at it more, moving, moving!
Love it, you've done great on your layout! Can't wait to see it finished.
That's really pretty! Me likey!!
Just a minute - you finished your watercolor, started this one, and you cut out another? Once school starts my sewing opportunities will reduce greatly. So--I'd love to finish these two tops--and get everything to the quilters in September. It is getting dark earlier now though--it was 8:30 last night. So--horses will be tucked in by 9:00 at the latest. Hmm--that will get me into the house more. |
Hey that looks great. Keep it up :D
I have to say your work is amazing. I see the circles and the stars and the movement is wonderful. I really like the transition from light to dark. AMAZING!!!
Love the color play on this.. so very pretty!!
Your circles probably won't show up til the blocks are joined. Then you get that smooth secondary pattern. I love the way it is turning out.
What ever layout you finally decide it will look great. Such beautiful color combinations.
I like it! I see movement and I can see it as the lake! You are doing a great job as alsways Karla.

I was just showing Mark the photo of the squares laid out and he said from where he was sitting it looked like a wave in the middle of the photo! That's cool!! A wave!! :D  :D  :D
I love your layout. I can see the movement from light to dark. Beautiful.
I like yours better than the original picture.
I can see the movement, but I understand what you are talking about. I think it is more subtle in yours like a kayak gliding across the water. I like yours much better and love how it goes from light to dark.
I love your blocks!! :D They are
turning out so nice. I am not sure what to suggest for continuing your color scheme. I just know whatever you chose will be perfect!! :D :D :D :D :D :D |
I love it Karla! The main difference in your quilt is that the lights run horizontal and vertical, whereas in the original they run on the diagonal. Those large circles in the original are formed by those diagonal lights. In your quilt the large circles are formed by the darks and darks recede, but I can see them. Your layout, however, reminds me more of the play of light on water than the original would have. How many more squares do you have to do? You go, girl!
I love it. Great job.
Your layout, however, reminds me more of the play of light on water than the original would have. I was kayaking yesterday morning and saw just the smallest shafts--lines--of light bright green on the bottom from the sun.... I was thinking I should add some, but then decided not to add more colors at this point. There are 25 done and 24 to go. I haven't been quilting at all for days--I'm getting my classroom ready and it's been way too hot. But--maybe this afternoon and I've reserved tomorrow (going to be stormy) to work on this one and the Triple Irish Chain! :D :D :D |
I love the colours and the shading, makes me think of lovely waters in the Lake district in Cumbria,England.
How beautiful! I see the movement, and love the progression! It is looking really good!
Really pretty! Last year I made a batik hanging of a lake with leaves applique'd. I put the darker HSTs on the bottom to signify the bottom of the lake, but yours looks good either way.
