np3 01-10-2011 08:58 PM

What a perfect way to store them!!! They can be seen but protected! Much better that inside a closet.

cathyvv 01-10-2011 08:59 PM

I love the necktie quilt!

I 'store' my hand me down quilt that my Grandmother made on a bed so it doesn't get fold lines. It is under a store bought quilt to keep the sun off of it. When I have visitors, it magically appears and the visitors get to use it.

Don't know what I'd do if I had as many antique quilts as you have! I have enjoyed looking at them and would probably ewww and ahhh over them if I got to see them for real!

What a family legacy you possess!! They're all wonderful, but I'm intrigued by the tie quilt!! Can't wait to see a full picture and any measurements that you can give, such as how much of the tie did she use. Hand stitched or machine, etc.

greensleeves 01-10-2011 10:18 PM

Wow, you really have beautiful quilts as heirlooms. I especially like the tie quilt your mother made, it is really pretty.

Gramof6 01-11-2011 12:38 AM

Another Okie. YEAH!!! Your quilts are amazing! Just gorgeous. You are very fortunate to have them so you can admire them often. Such sentimental value there!!! Your quilt Chest is beautiful as well. I know you must be so proud of these beauties. Wouldn't it be grand if these older quilts could talk & tell about the process of it being made or about the maker? I have always thought that. Thank You for sharing.

Laura3 01-11-2011 03:42 AM

my Mother would be so happy.... this was her first quilt .... she sewed every tie on by hand all the embrodery work took her about 6 months to do .... she improved as she worked she did about 10 tie quilts in her last years one for each grandchild ... and gave me her original .... later today will lay it out on the floor and post pics of it and close ups of the edges .... think she is where I got my love for crazy quilting

Crazy Quiltin Robin 01-11-2011 07:14 AM

I will post pics of my first try at crazy quilting soon too ... I used two ties and made a pillow top ..... I love it but have so many pieced quilts to make and so little time to do it in ....lol

They are all a treasure for you to keep! I would also like to know how the neck tie quilt is done - I have a box of my Dad's ties and haven't decided what to do with them.

Momma made her own pattern she took the ties apart and folded them to make the star in the center then she cut some in half to make the next round then she pieced the rest to make it a square and then baisted the pieced part together then embroidered it all together ... then added the pretty work as she called it .... glad you enjoyed the pics
