sustraley 02-28-2011 05:54 AM

I just made my first rag quilt. Did not realize the cutting would be so hard on the hands. It was just a baby quilt. So now I need to know "what special scissors and where can I get them"?

akitagirl 02-28-2011 07:03 AM

I love rag quilts!! Yours is so neat especially like the button treatment.

Agreat guy quilt. I bet he does love it. Good luck getting it back. lol

Nana Lynn 02-28-2011 10:09 AM

I made a doll quilt and a baby quilt using this method but didn't like all the "lint" it made so made another baby quilt I used my pinking sissors to trim each block before they were stitch together. Went a lot faster and didn't have to do anything when I finished except double stitch around the edge.

grannypat7925 02-28-2011 10:37 AM

Yes, quilts are a lot of work. I can see why he loves it!

Nolee 02-28-2011 10:51 AM

I like it the way it is; what will happen if you don't snip it? Wouldn't it fray anyway? I bet it would look GREAT!!

GramaLaura 02-28-2011 10:59 AM

Great colors......looks warm and comfy

mdunker 02-28-2011 11:02 AM

I LOVE TO DO THE RAG QUILTS----BUT AS YOU SAID--CAN WREAK HAVOC ON THE HANDS----SO I PURCHASED A PAIR OF THE FISKARS AT JO-ANN'S-----WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! CAN SIT AND SNIP WHILE WATCHING TV.....AMAZING HOW MUCH FASTER THESE SCISSORS MAKE THE PROCESS.....

OH YES----ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL QUILT!!!!!

Great job! I know how difficult it is to keep those plaids and checks perfectly 'straight'! Or maybe it is only difficult for me ---> doesn't look like it was difficult for you.

Karo 02-28-2011 06:04 PM

So nice! Like the plaids and checks; very Americana

I will be putting the extra row on the quilt sometime next week and making shams to match. I have decided that if I ever do another king size rag quilt it will not be for less than $300-$400. This was a lot of work.

Question- How did you make it puffy and do you have buttons in the center where you tided it?
Beautiful, I love it.

The puffiness comes from the batting. Yes there are buttons. I tied these on.

They are called rag quilt snips. You can purchase them and the fabric shop.

I have made alot of rag quilts. Have also made a few king size ones. They are alot of work. I have been clipping as I go. I do around 3 rows then clip and so on. It is very tiring clippin. Very good job. And I like the buttons

Aunt Bea 02-28-2011 09:33 PM
