Here is the king size quilt I have been working on for my son's buddy for his Bday. I do not have pics of it after it was clipped yet. Before you comment on it being country, just wanted to say this is what he ordered. ( I also love the country look) My son and his wife gave it to the friend on Wednesday. It is not quite wide enough so I will have to add another row. That is if I can get it back from him. My son and his wife stated that he loves it so much he does not want to give it back. I will be putting the extra row on the quilt sometime next week and making shams to match. I have decided that if I ever do another king size rag quilt it will not be for less than $300-$400. This was a lot of work.

quilt is laying on my bed

I actually did not tie the quilt. I cross hatched it then tied the buttons on in the middle. You just take the needle down (from top side so that tail is on top) through one hole of the button back up the other hole and down the first hole again and back up the second hole. Then you tie the thread twice. Just make sure your tails end up on the top.

Is it made with cotton or flannel? What did you back it and what batting did you use?
I really like it, you did a good job.

It is made with homespun. The batting is high loft poly/cotton. the backing is the same fabric as the front. I normally would not use the high loft batting in such a large quilt but this is what the customer wanted.

lovely quilt, the hardest part is the cutting to finish it off. OH for a go machine or the studio takes all the hard work out of it.
thanks for the picture Now I know what to do with DH old check shirts LOL

feffertim 02-27-2011 06:06 AM

love the button embellishment. I must try that. It will be worth your while to get a pair of the special scissors made for cutting this fringe, I got a pair of friskers on e bay for about $9. and they work great, saves your hands from getting so tired.

bbquilter 02-27-2011 06:08 AM

Really nice, I can see why he likes it. The clipping is the worst, I agree dont under cut yourself these are a lot of work.

karenm36 02-27-2011 06:15 AM

Wonderful quilt!! Have seen smaller rag quilts but not one on this grand scale before. Looks awesome...and yes, they are soooo much work...the clipping especially.

sharoney 02-27-2011 06:17 AM

Antdebby1 02-27-2011 06:17 AM

Love the quilt and the country look. That quilt was a lot of work. You did great! What size are the finished squares on this quilt?

GwynR 02-27-2011 08:24 AM

I love that! Never thought of both tying a rag quilt like that, and quilting it. It looks so good with the high loft batting too! And the colors are great! I am going to have to bookmark this one and make on for my bed!

judy_68 02-27-2011 08:24 AM

Love your rag quilt. I have made a lot of rag quilts, but have never tied one. I like the tied look on yours, and will probably do it on my next one. Thanks for sharing.

actually my son helped me clip this quilt. I worked with him for about 2 hours. Then he and his wife took it home and worked on it another 3-4 hours. He wanted to get it clipped so that he could give to the friend the next night.
