King size Scrappy Trips

2 Attachment(s)
This is another Bonnie Hunter design. I wanted to use up some scraps and I needed a king size quilt. This quilt measures 106x106. The problem is it wouldn't fit on my 10 foot frame and small machine. I decided to try grid quilting it. I am happy with how it turned out. Where there's a will there's a way. Thanks for looking.

I love this pattern and the quilt too!! My mom made many Trip Around the World quilts in her lifetime but I have not attempted one as yet. On my bucket list though. :)

This is fantastic! I think you made a good choice for the quilting, especially with all the seams in it.

Love your Bonnie Hunter quilt(s.) Can't wait for her newest book to be out, any time now. Want to do the Easy Street pattern, too. Also love Double Delight. She has so many great ones.....

Beautiful and love your grid quilting. Think I'll have to try that for my DD's quilt--not a scrappy TATW, but a regular one.

I've had some of these strips cut out...should pull them out of my UFO cabinet and finish them! :)

How hard was it to do this size on your machine?

BETTY62 02-18-2014 11:22 PM

Its a great scrappy, and your grid quilting was a nice choice. The grid quilting really compliments the piecing.

That is a wonderful quilt - perfectly quilted!

I used 2.5 inch strips. I grid quilted it with and old Singer 66 because it has a 8.5 throat space. I used the glue basting method to baste it. It took me about four days to do it. I put tables around my machine to support the weight of the quilt. I can't say it was easy but I did enjoy the process and the outcome. Bonnie's designs never let me down and they are fun to do. We have had a terrible winter here so I might as well quit whining about it and do something productive.

Very nice. I have not seen one I didn't like yet of these. I just printed off the directions last night, as I wanted to sew, but don't really have a project in mind.
