Thank you, thank you and thank you for bringing a LOT of beauty to this corner of Illinois. It's a dreary, wet and grey day, so the stunning colors of the quilts you so painstakingly produced for our enjoyment is very much appreciated. Did I say thank you? If not, I will now - THANK YOU! Belles

Dittoes! It just does my heart so good to see all that beauty and talent, and to have you take time to take pictures and load them up on a thread for us ... why! That is almost as good as being there, but by golly! We do miss the hugs, don't we? <wave> Thank you for sharing.

barnbum 04-24-2010 02:13 PM

Got the quilts back--safe and sound. ;) I have comments from a judge--but no numbers were used--so they're just critiques, I guess. Some comments to learn by. I'll post them in Main since they'll get buried here. Maybe they'll help someone else!

We were all sitting waiting for the quilts to be ready, and I asked the nice lady next to me which quilt was hers--that I'd try to remember. Hers was the cabin one!!  I told her I thought she'd win Viewer's Choice if the forum gals were voting. :-D She bought a kit because she didn't think she could find just the right colors/fabrics. When she was appliquéing the canoe on, her machine goofed up and made a knot--and a little hole. So she added feathers. I have to go back to look.

Oh--and you're so welcome for taking the time to post. I kept trying to read minds--hmmm--someone will want a close up of this one... and this one. Ha-ha. I love to see quilt show posts--so I'm making my annual contribution.

Oh--the Viewer's Choice quilts will be announced later and will be posted on their website.... I'll check it now and then and let you know which ones won.

Beautiful quilts - all of them including yours. Thanks for sharing.

The show is at Marcus Whitman High School and yes I have a daughter at Geneseo!! She's a bio/psych major--one more year to go. Who do you have there???

Sent you a PM.

craftybear 04-24-2010 05:37 PM

wow, thanks for sharing, love the quilts!

CraftsByRobin 04-24-2010 06:07 PM

Beautiful!!! I wish I could have seen some of those up close ...

gaigai 04-24-2010 11:05 PM

Wow!! Your photos make me (almost) feel as if I had been there!! There were some beauties, that's for sure! My favorite pic is the very last one, not just because of the quilt, but because of the beautiful quilt-maker standing next to it!

And Peace and Joy, you should have let Karla take your picture!!

gaigai--you are so kind. And I agree on peace and joy in a pic!! I should have persisted. ;)

It's amazing to think all that was set up so quickly--and dismantled so fast.... and how many it must have inspired in the blink of time it was up. Wow.

stitchinwitch 04-25-2010 03:35 AM

Lots of beautiful quilts! That bluish/turquoise one was drop dead gorgeous! Thanks for sharing - It almost wants me to give up quilting - I can't hold a candle to some of them!

barnbum 04-25-2010 03:43 AM

Now, now--no one is supposed to feel small or want to give up quilting from seeing these photos!! No. NO. NO!!! They are 100% meant to inspire and to see color combos you might not have thought about--or patterns you want to try. I have to say--I think I was one of the youngest ones displaying quilts--and I'm nearly..nearly... nearly..5-0. (AHHHH) So--it takes years to polish skills...

Now, everyone who felt badly, repeat after me "I know I can...I know I can...I am growing...I am growing. I am a quilter. I am a quilter." 8-)

Nanjun 04-25-2010 03:52 AM

All so beautiful and sooo much talent there. I know you had a wonderful time and thanks for taking all the pictures. I really enjoyed this showing.

stitchinwitch 04-25-2010 04:25 AM

hahaha barnbum! Ok, ok, I will get on the horse again, and not be discouraged! AS MY MACHINE IS MY WITNESS - I WILL NEVER NOT QUILT AGAIN!!!

See, my reaction was just the opposite--maybe because (as opposed to a larger show) there were more "traditional" than "art" quilts (No offense to the art quilters here). I looked at lots of them and thought "oooohhhh, I want to do that, and that, and that, and.........". I especially loved the one just below kayak, and have had my nose pressed to the screen trying to figure out the blocks! :P :P :P

barnbum 04-25-2010 04:32 AM

Which is the bluish/turquoise one? The paper pieced star??

Oh--gaigai--I love that one too! The information said it was done with one fabric (?)--which was what intrigued the quilter. I could not figure it out when I stared at it--but once I realized it was fussy cut, I moved on. I do know the fabric is called He loves me, Loves me not--something like that--I've seen it before. The quilter said every row, or block, every something--ended with "He Loves Me." :-D Hmm--now that sounds like two different fabrics.

I would rather choose the Viewer's Choice after studying them like this!!

sandpat 04-25-2010 05:03 AM

So did you post the winner of the viewer's choice and I just missed it Karla? I have this bookmarked so I can spend more time....there are sooo many!! (thank you!!!) I want to make lots of them!!

barnbum 04-25-2010 05:20 AM

sandpat--they haven't posted the winners on their website yet.

sandpat 04-25-2010 05:35 AM

oh, ok.....I'm just not so patiently waiting....*tapping fingers on the desk*

barnbum 04-25-2010 05:44 AM

Ha-ha--I know.

Here was my email to one of the guild members:

Hello--
I was at the quilt show today and WOW what a fabulous job the guild has done putting it on. Everything is beautifully set-up, everyone is friendly, the vendors have fabulous items, and the quilts were of such a variety. And lunch was unbelievable--what a delicious deal!! Can you tell I had a good time? :-)

My question is if I pick my quilts up tomorrow at 5, how will I know which two quilts won the Viewer's Choice? I took pictures of nearly every quilt to share with a quilting forum, and all of us would love to know who won that honor. When I come at 5:00 will I be able to find this out? Or do I need to come before the show ends to see them?

Thanks!

And her reply:

Sorry Karla, I no longer have access to my email every day, however, I do not believe we knew that info at 5 pm yesterday, however, I can email you when I find out, I will go to the library and check email about 3 times a week, until I get a new computer on line at home...
Show was a lot of work, and we are tired, but I am truly thankful that you sent this, it is nice to know you liked it enough to share, I am going to forward your comments to the other two co-chairs... we are feeling good about this one....

Thanks for sharing these pictures, the quilts are amazing. Quiltfest is coming to Denver next weekend and I am going to go. It will be my first quilt show. My husband and son are going with me....gasp!!! I don't know if it is for my protection or to keep me from spending too much money??? I am nowhere near the level of quilter these ladies are so I have to be careful not to get discouraged. I am going with the intent of getting inspiration and motivation.

juststart 04-25-2010 09:18 AM

Super photos! Glad you posted the pictures to share.

Nancy in Louisiana 04-25-2010 09:24 AM

Thank you so much for sharing - I'm bummed because I never seem to plan our vacation trip home at the right time to catch some of these shows. Last year I missed the one in Rochester by ONE DAY!!! Any shows coming up the beginning of June that you know of?

AkAngel 04-25-2010 09:38 AM

What a fantastic show, thank you so much for sharing it with us. I love the close ups. That picture with the little bird on the flower water pot is so cute. I love those little 3D details. Maybe one day I'll make something with 3 D

Wow! What a good show!

Calico Grammy 04-25-2010 12:11 PM

Thanks for the show tour and thank you for taking the time to post all of the pictures. WOW they are certainly not "cuddle up/sleep under" quilts, but works of art that belong in a gallery. I suddenly feel very inadequate!!
