I wanted to make a lap quilt to ward off the winter chills, so I choose Asian florals to help recall the colours of a summer garden. I used Hobbs wool batting, which has a lovely lightness, yet cosiness to it. I chose to machine quilt with my walking foot and did SID and an orange peel pattern in the blocks. The finished size is 50 inches by 72 inches.
Thank you for looking!

This is beautiful! I made one similar and used a pattern titled "County Lines". What pattern did you use? I think the black accents the asian prints so well.

Bueniebabe 10-08-2011 01:53 AM

Thank you for your kind comments.
The pattern I found to show off the fabrics is free on Robert Kaufman’s site at

http://www.robertkaufman.com/quiltin...ican_heritage/
I altered the lower left hand corner slightly and added an extra border.

If you like this one you might also like a similar one free on Fabric Freedom's site at
http://www.fabricfreedom.co.uk/Resou...ht%20Quilt.jpg
& for instructions
http://www.fabricfreedom.co.uk/Resou...structions.pdf
this one is smaller at 38" x 47".

I love the way the black sashing makes the prints look brighter, the close up shows that better. While I was putting it together I was afraid it might look a bit of a hotchpotch, but the extra border seemed to bring it all together.

Beautiful. Love the Asian prints.

It's a beautiful combination. I generally don't care for Asian fabrics because they are hard to use in regular patchwork but this is a very nice way to showcase them in their proper amounts. And the orange peel quilting was inspired. It has an Asian feel to it that is just right.

Your quilt is gorgeous. Oh, I absolutely love asian fabrics. They are my favorite but our LQS carry very, very little of it. I guess they just don't have much of a call for it here in the mountains of Pa.

DeeBooper 10-08-2011 05:05 AM
