I just made a quilt with this fabric and the coordinating fabrics that go with it. I haven't gotten it quilted yet. The pattern I used you can download free from the Clothworks website. It is called Happy Camper Too.

Another idea: fussy cut the fabric into strips, and alternate them with other outdoorsy strips for the front of the quilt.

I did something similar for a train quilt I'm making for my son. I cut the trains to look like they were running across the quilt. I added strips of railroad tracks, a mountain scene (inspired by Sedona AZ) and a 'stream.' (I posted this top some time ago, and I've been hand-quilted it forEVER, in between a lot of other projects!)

This is what I thought too. Make a square for each RV and then applique the RV to the block. Great Fabric by the way.

My thoughta exactly. Cute fabric!

This print is too large to make pieced blocks out of. you would loose too much of the theme.
Use it for backing fabric.

tadpoles_62 10-04-2010 11:00 AM

i also think i would fussy cut the campers and use fabric with grass or rocks , i love the fabric

Baloonatic 10-04-2010 12:05 PM

Put a grassy border on one side, mountains on a second border, beach on a third and a bit of forest on the fourth side!

For a different layout, how about making large squares, cutting them from lower corner to upper center (both sides), and reassembling them on the opposite sides so that the blocks are all on point. Anyone know the name of this technique? It's super easy.

Oh here's one I've almost finished, another way to showcase a theme fabric you might no want to cut:

wow this is beautiful!!

What fun fabric. Suggestion: fussy cut several campers.
Using an earth tone solid, green, beige, place them in a rather large circle, you know like a wagon train shown on old westerns. then using your appliqué skills, put a camp-fire in the center with logs, a few fishing poles with the woven fish baskets (can't remember the name of these).
Maybe some people cut-outs if can find or just silhouettes,
add trees and birds, a sun, clouds, a hammock, a lake or stream, let your imagination take the reigns! No matter what you do it's bound to be fun!

I actually have the same fabric and a pattern with other coordinating fabric. In my pattern they actually fancy the campers. If you want to know more drop me an email

That is the cutest fabric. I was also thinking backing or border fabric with maybe some fussy cut RVs. I would hate to cut through any of them. Very cute. Can you tell me who the maker is of the fabric and the line? Thanks!

Quiltylady 10-04-2010 03:22 PM

Cut out each motif and put them in attic windows.

Thank you.

Quilts for Kids has a cute pattern. It is a 4-patch alternating with a block and staggered throughout the quilt. It could be made larger to suit the bed you want to put it on. You could use the campers in the large block by fussy cutting them, and using marbles or solids for the 4-patch. Then use the campers again on the back. It is a very easy pattern and moves along quickly. Just go to quiltforkids.org to see an example. There are lots of free patterns on the internet.

Hexies!!! That would be great in a modern hexagon quilt!

whereaminow 10-04-2010 05:01 PM

[quote=Kathy T.]I would fussy cut the campers into squares and put them into an attic windows setting ... sort of a "windows on travel" theme.

I thought this idea was good - you could even make the bottom of the 'window sill' look like a road way with broken white lines or maybe a grass print and the side of the 'window sill' a print with trees in it.

I found a quilt pattern that uses this RV print, private e-mail me if you would like me to send it to you.

I would do the same. I have a 5 year old GGS who would really love such a thing.

natlewis 10-04-2010 05:35 PM

I was looking for this fabric earlier this year. There is a pattern called the Happy Camper that I had seen in a quilting magazine.
If you are interested in this pattern and cannot find it, I would be happy to send it to you. What a fun fabric!!

dljennings 10-04-2010 06:49 PM

you could use the 4 patch downy quilt pattern, fussy cut this fabric into 6 1/2 " squares & alternate it in rows with 4 patch.. i used fabric w/construction vehicles on it for the downy quilt.. worked great...

That's what I was thinking.....fussy cut the campers for a block center.

finch 10-05-2010 11:37 AM

I like the fussy cut idea. They are so cute!!!!! I am having the same problem with some fabric that I got with snowboards on it for my grandson.Fussy cutting is my decision after analyzing it for a while.

marla 10-05-2010 03:00 PM

Fussy cut each of the vehicles and place on a background with sky and roads. Put in a few trees and you have a landscape quilt for the litttle one. Many bedtime stories can then be told from it.
Best wishes,
Marla

My SIL would love that fabric. He repairs caravans and campers for Insurance companies. I would suggest making stas blocks with the campers in the center of each block. Or perhaps some thing to do with travel and have them around the edges. Mountain Scenes with the campers on the block is another idea.

A friend used that same fabric to make a Quillow for their RV.

finished quilt, I chose the D9P. I would choose another pattern next time. i felt there were too many colors and I had difficulty placing blocks so that the same colors were not next to each other, as you can see it didn't work out.
I made 2 lap quilts both slightly different.

KandiKane 07-26-2011 11:10 PM

I have a campground and would like to buy some fabric to make curtains for the cabins, just love it, I would make some lap quilts also , but would not cut it up, I would just sew around each pictures of the campers to have it stand out then stipple on the outside of the pictures..

KandiKane 07-26-2011 11:13 PM

I agree would make a great picture quilt

KandiKane 07-26-2011 11:16 PM

That i is beautiful love the pattern and wood look on outside.. you have great ideas..
