I have been away from the boards for the last few months and boy, have I missed ya'll!!
I was asked to make a quilt for a new baby girl, in pink and black. They said I could use whatever design I wanted and any variation on the 2 colors. I wanted to do a TATW, but that seemed boring and overdone, to me. So, I went with a TATW-Twister style. Let's just say that I am burnt out on this design for a good while now. The starter quilt was ginormous, and took almost 2 weeks to cut up and sew back together. The quilt turned out beautifully and the parents loved my gift so much, they donated some money to me for my time. I even made a matching wall-hanging with the baby's name and birthdate on it out of the leftover fabs. I used 3D pinwheels on it to loosely carry the theme over.

And my son swore I couldn't pull it off, that color scheme he said was an awful choice for a baby/child! PFFFFFTTT, I say. ^_^

The starter quilt, in-progress

Finished and it came out bit bigger than toddler-bed sized

The backing I used, it is for a girl, afterall

I was just looking at my Twister book tonight to make a baby quilt from it. Then as I read the instructions, I got confused and put it away. Sounded like a lot of work and I want something quick and cute to do. Is there a lot of waste on this pattern?

I love the way yours turned out!!!

ogama 09-23-2011 06:37 PM

wow that is great. super job for sure. thanks for sharing

everbtrue 09-23-2011 06:37 PM

That is beautiful!!!

PJisChaos 09-23-2011 06:39 PM

They are time-consuming, true. But the finished product is so stunning! Def give it a whirl sometime, this one took me over a month to do. Only cuz I had several things in the fire at that time though. They really are fun to do, overall. Ya just never know how it's gonna end up til it's done. Hope ya give it a go at some point.

Thanks everyone, I enjoy learning and even doing all the things I see on here. Ya'll are too kind!

Oh, that's the best part though. Ya can square up the little squares ya cut away and make a mini version or use them in your scrap bins for other projects.

Crqltr 09-23-2011 06:43 PM

I would have agreed with your son! Turned out beautiful!

charmpacksplus 09-23-2011 06:48 PM

Oh my!! That's a lot of twisting going on there. But you did an awesome job.

SWEETPEACHES 09-23-2011 07:13 PM

Wow. I've heard of and have seen pictures here of Twisters, but I never knew you start off with blocks all sewn together... then cut? then sew again?
I don't know how to do it, but it's really really awesome

GGinMcKinney 09-23-2011 07:15 PM

Sew pretty!

debcavan 09-23-2011 07:25 PM

This is a kind of walk thru of the first one I did, in the pic of the top with the drawn squares on it, those are what ya cut and sew back together. You do want to make sure that ya keep 'em in order or it gets all messed up. I only did rows of 5 at a time to make that part easier. If you do a search of the boards, I believe there is an actual tute put up on the whole process that is much more detailed.

**Edit**
Ok, so I was wrong. There is no tute that I could find. However, if ya search the term twister, there are a ton of posts and pics full of great and useful info. I didn't use the "Official" tools or books, just picked up what I could from the boards and winged it. If ya have any questions, just ask. I have no doubts all of us here could help ya thru it.

Very nice!! I am very impressed. Not sure I will get around to attempting one myself but loved seeing yours.

Thanks~ I was just watching some tutorials on you tube. Great quilt

jdiane318 09-23-2011 07:45 PM

I love the twister, to me, they are simple. Take 5" blocks, sew them together in strips, then use the template and cut, then resew the cut blocks. Love how this turned out.

needles3thread 09-23-2011 08:32 PM

I have only made a small twister.........did this size
take a long time to make? I love the pattern.

PJisChaos 09-23-2011 08:35 PM

LOL! Yes it sure did but, only due to having 3 other projects going at the time.

cherrio 09-23-2011 08:48 PM

that tuned out so nice! and I thought a D9P was to a hassle-pffftt as you say.
