The last of the vintage quilt tops found
 

I posted last week about a cousin handing me a bunch of quilt tops that she'd discovered under the guest room bed of her mom's house. She didn't know they existed and none of the family quilts. She gave them to me to do with what I choose. I'll quilt them and give them back. They are her family heirlooms and they should have them.

Anyway, the tops were put in the back of our covered truck to travel back home. I didn't know how many there were and I didn't know what they were. I posted 6 of the tops earlier this week. But, I missed one top. I discovered it the next day when I unloaded everything but it's been a busy week and I didn't get a picture until now.

There is a pale green sashing and pale pink cornerstones. And, there are a couple of stains, too. I hope those come out when I get it quilted and washed. This one seems to need a border. At least that's what I think. But, I'm afraid I won't be able to come up with something that won't look out of place. This fabric is old and loosely woven. The lady died in 1962. I do have some muslin and some feed sack material. Maybe one of those might work. I'd really like your opinion about whether to add a border or not.

Any information about how old this quilt top might be would be helpful, too.

I agree it needs a border. Marcus makes a bubble gum pink that might work and Kona makes a green called “Old Green” that works with 30’s beautifully. The quilt is lovely by the way.

This is a beautiful quilt to add to this collection of vintage quilt tops. I love butterflies! Now are you sure you found all of them :). I too believe it should have a boarder. If you have a feed sack that comes close to this quilt I would use it as long as it is not washing out the butterflies. A solid border in a rose color would also look great. I want to see all of them when they are finished.

Yes it needs a border. If nothing more than muslin to match the background and then a pretty binding to set it all off. Beautiful quilt
or if you can find a shade darker than the green, that would look good too

I would try my best to match the pale green and pink and extend the sashing with cornerstones to the outside of the blocks. Then I might add a muslin border and use the pale green to bind it.

The butterfly quilt is very pretty.

Pretty quilt. I also "inherited" (inadvertently) similar butterfly "blocks" only, not put together into a top yet. There were 3 tops and several sets blocks only from my dad's mother (so I am told) in my mother's house. I did finish the "prettiest" top on the machine in 2019, which had yellow flowers applique'd on muslin and green lattice. I used yellow binding. I do like the pale pink & green color scheme on your butterflies for inspiration. I need to lay mine out to see what size they might become and what colors might work. Thanks!

The butterflies are awesome. Your cousins are so fortunate to have you to give the finished quilts back to them. As far as borders go, I think a white border might be the easiest to match, but I agree the green and/or pinks would be perfect. Good luck on your search for the perfect finish.
