Late Christmas and wedding gifts - Green Links Table Runners
4 Attachment(s)
I made 7 table runners with interlocking pieces. Each one is a little different from the others. They were meant for Christmas gifts and wedding gifts, but, alas, I was either too slow or tried to make too many runners in a short amount of time!
I was looking at a pattern for this but decided there were too many little pieces, so I reconfigured it to suit my style of quilting. The arduous task of what to quilt on the quilt took a little while and seems to have worked out just fine. Which one is your favorite? I don't understand why the first picture rotated. Thanks for looking! |
They are all exceptional! The quilting is gorgeous... I have a bunch of this Stonehenge fabric....This looks really cool...

They are all beautiful. and the quilting is amazing!
I really like this pattern and that Stonehenge fabric is certainly a lovely choice for these table runners. And, your quilting choice is just perfect for your project.

You asked "Which one is your favorite?"

The original quilt pattern is called Island Chain and it can be found in the book Scrap-Basket Sensations by Kim Brackett. https://www.amazon.com/Scrap-Basket-.../dp/1604680148 I only wanted a table runner and didn't want all the little pieces, so I reconfigured it for a table runner. I couldn't find my way of cutting and piecing the linking chain anywhere on the internet. You can easily make the chain using Kim's pattern by using the outside border part. The quilt is much more complex than this runner and that's why she uses smaller pieces. Her method is probably much quicker than mine. I probably spent the most time on my quilt knotting and burying threads from the quilting. I used two packs of Robin's Egg 40" x 2 1/2" strips to make 7 of these (the last one was more scrappy because the leftovers were being used). I LOVE Stonehenge fabrics! |
Those are a beautiful wall hanging all together. Very pretty.
They are stunning! I think they would make a great wall display on a large wall.
Very pretty. I can't pick a favorite either. Are you giving them now or waiting till next Christmas?
I love the colors you've chosen... Nice work.
very lovely table topper.
They all came out great. I like number 4 with the darker on the ends and the lighter in the middle. It is striking!
I love these!!! And! I have that pattern book and a bunch of left over Stonehenge fabric! Thank you!
I have to agree that they are all so pretty.
Oh my, those look great, especially when all together like that!
What wonderful quilting! You have done a beautiful job, love it!
They look nice ,,, my favorite is middle runner in top photo.
They are all beautiful, all are my favorites.
Love Love Love them! That Island Chain is a favorite.
Oh my theses are just beautiful! Number 4 is my favorite!
Don't think I could choose but I want one! What is the finished size of the runner?
My favorite is the one in the middle, but I love them all. I've made a very similar table runner but with less links. (Mind was made using charm squares) I like your fabric choices better than mine.
They are gorgeous and I love them all. I have three pkgs of Stonehenge strips and now have a reason to use them!
When I made my linking squares piece, there were many small pieces to be put together, but I found out how to eliminate some of them by using flying geese instead of all HSTs. The judge loved it.
Your way is sooooo much easier. |
If I had to pick a favorite, it would be those with the dark squares at the ends. That gives more contrast with the background.
Very attractive. Since they're mostly neutrals most everyone will love them! Me included.
I like all of them but if I had to choose, I think I like the ones with the darkest colors in the middle. Now you are way ahead of the game for gift giving this year. Thank you for posting closeups.
So very lovely. All of them are gorgeous. My favorite is the one in the middle, simply for the color progression.

Thanks for all your very nice comments! Here are some responses, and if you have anymore questions please feel free to ask.
You all give me way too much credit for that first picture. It turned on it's side for some reason. The runners are laid out on our floor, but when looking at the picture, it really seams they are hanging on a wall. Wow. The size of the runners is about 14.5" x 47.5", depending on how accurate the seams are. I cannot take credit for the fabric choices because Stonehenge makes these beautiful Gradaitions Strips sets. All I did was organize them from light to dark to light and dark to light to dark. (I have to say that the fabric has a pretty good bend in the middle of the strip. I couldn't use the center of the strips, which made for some fabric waste.) I have a bunch of light fabric strips left over and, maybe, I can make a few of these with light strips and dark background. That would look really cool, too. |
Lovely result.
Just think of it as not being late for last Christmas but you are early for this year. LOL. |
