I started this yesterday, it will be for an old friend of mine from high school. He took me to our senior prom, do you think the material pattern is ok for a guy? I am working with material that I already had. I am going to put the striped boarder but I think a darker one first than the stripe. What do you think??

trueimage 12-26-2010 06:20 AM

I think it's gorgeous! He'll love it!

Love2Craft 12-26-2010 06:23 AM

Yes...the dark border before the stripe would really pop it!

QUILTNMO 12-26-2010 06:28 AM

davidwent 12-26-2010 06:29 AM

Definitely a great quilt for a guy, and I agree a darker border before the strip would really set it off!

mrspete 12-26-2010 06:40 AM

very nice.

hcarpanini 12-26-2010 06:41 AM

I love the colors. Definately a dark "stop" border before the stripe.

So enjoying the different fabrics

A black & red D9P is one of the best because of the contrasts. Beautiful quilt. I think I'm going to try one and use some UGA (Univ of GA) material for one of my nephews.

Cyn 12-26-2010 10:32 AM

Wonderful quilt for anyone!

MillieH 12-26-2010 11:11 AM

Hmm...why is this called a D9P? I'm seeing blocks of 4 patches--different sized. I love combos of black/white/red, too.

Jingle 12-26-2010 11:17 AM

Pretty and use a dark border for sure before the stripe border to frame it. He will love it.

117becca 12-26-2010 11:21 AM

Hi Millie! It's a Disappearing 9 Patch...big 9 patch cut horizontally and vertically and then flipped around to form different patterns. It's very versatile and fun pattern....also very fast to put together.

Jo Belmont 12-26-2010 12:24 PM

Oh, oh! Wherever did you get the checked fabric with the gradated tone levels? That is just about the most delicious stuff I've ever seen?

sinnemahoning 12-26-2010 01:52 PM

The colors are great for a guy and a dark border would really set it off. He'll treasure it.

Ditter43 12-26-2010 01:53 PM

That is a fantastic quilt!! He will love it! :D

mequilter 12-26-2010 02:08 PM

Perfect choices for a "man" quilt. I agree that a dark border before the stripe will really make it pop.

Don't know, I have had it for a while.

Boxer mom 12-26-2010 02:43 PM

Thank you for all the great reply's, I just wasn't sure of some of the patterns (the flowers) on a couple of them.

okiepastor 12-26-2010 02:44 PM

I love it--yes, dark border first!

Snorky Lvs2Quilt 12-26-2010 02:47 PM

I always like the dark borders last but in this case I do think it would be best to put the dark border then the striped border. Either way, I think it is a great quilt. He will love it.

quilt3311 12-27-2010 05:10 AM

Lucky guy! He should love it.

katlady 12-27-2010 06:37 AM

Love the colors you used. It is a great quilt.

MillieH 12-27-2010 06:42 AM

Thanks, Jljack! I found a good tutorial for D9P online. This looks like fun--gotta try one!

quiltaroni 12-27-2010 06:54 AM

I think that is the nicest d9p I have seen so far,and my two sons loved it and did a bit of hinting.

sue1964 12-27-2010 07:01 AM

Very nice quilt for a guy yes. A darker border will really bring it togeather very nicely, keep up the good work.

Mariposa 12-27-2010 07:03 AM

Nicely done!

koko 12-27-2010 07:04 AM

Very nice for a guy. I agree with you... frame it with a small dark color then the stripes. I do alot of stripe bindings too on the bias - I tell people it gives my quilts character and attitude.

grannypat7925 12-27-2010 07:08 AM

Looks like a great quilt for anybody. If he doesn't want it I'll take it LOL.
