I started this yesterday, it will be for an old friend of mine from high school. He took me to our senior prom, do you think the material pattern is ok for a guy? I am working with material that I already had. I am going to put the striped boarder but I think a darker one first than the stripe. What do you think??

I think it's gorgeous! He'll love it!
Yes...the dark border before the stripe would really pop it!
very nice and good for a man good job

It'sAWESOME!!! (from a guy)

Definitely a great quilt for a guy, and I agree a darker border before the strip would really set it off!
very nice.
I love the colors. Definately a dark "stop" border before the stripe.

I think he would love it, Very pretty.
So enjoying the different fabrics

A black & red D9P is one of the best because of the contrasts. Beautiful quilt. I think I'm going to try one and use some UGA (Univ of GA) material for one of my nephews.
Wonderful quilt for anyone!
Hmm...why is this called a D9P? I'm seeing blocks of 4 patches--different sized. I love combos of black/white/red, too.
Pretty and use a dark border for sure before the stripe border to frame it. He will love it.
beautiful - and i thought i was the only one sewing yesterday!! :)

Oh, oh! Wherever did you get the checked fabric with the gradated tone levels? That is just about the most delicious stuff I've ever seen?
The colors are great for a guy and a dark border would really set it off. He'll treasure it.
That is a fantastic quilt!! He will love it! :D

Perfect choices for a "man" quilt. I agree that a dark border before the stripe will really make it pop.

Thank you for all the great reply's, I just wasn't sure of some of the patterns (the flowers) on a couple of them.
I love it--yes, dark border first!
I always like the dark borders last but in this case I do think it would be best to put the dark border then the striped border. Either way, I think it is a great quilt. He will love it.
Lucky guy! He should love it.
Love the colors you used. It is a great quilt.
Thanks, Jljack! I found a good tutorial for D9P online. This looks like fun--gotta try one!
I think that is the nicest d9p I have seen so far,and my two sons loved it and did a bit of hinting.
Very nice quilt for a guy yes. A darker border will really bring it togeather very nicely, keep up the good work.
Nicely done!
Very nice for a guy. I agree with you... frame it with a small dark color then the stripes. I do alot of stripe bindings too on the bias - I tell people it gives my quilts character and attitude.
Looks like a great quilt for anybody. If he doesn't want it I'll take it LOL.
