layer cake challenge
 

I'm having a challenge with my sister. The rules are each of the 21 different fabrics in the layer cake had to be used and one other (background) fabric could be added. Here's what I came up with. Didn't know how to "turn the corner" on the border so I just cut it off at the appropriate length. The pattern is from the August 2015 issue of American Patchwork and Quilting, but with my border. While I wait for my batting to arrive I get to stare at it to figure out how to quilt it.

It's wonderful and I love the blocks and the inner colorful border...sounds like a fun project.

I have just run into a layer cake problem. My 10 inch cakes were not 10 inches. I was so EXCITED to get started on this that I did not check them. Now I have (paint box shadow quilt) all of the 42 cakes with two sides sewn on. Yuk.

I'll post a picture of my sister's quilt when it's finished. Might be a while because we aren't sharing until they're both completely finished and ready for posting on facebook for voting. I lost our last challenge by one vote because mine was "too modern". Hope that doesn't happen again.
