I'm making a quilt in sunset/mountain colors as a gift. I have 50+ squares and cannot decide whether to put it together on point (I have one picture of them more or less randomly placed on point) or in traditional rows (in which case I'll probably arrange them something like in the other picture -- with the yellow/oranges in the center, working their way out to the blues/purples). In neither picture are all the squares included, but you get the idea.

So which layout do you like better?

BTW these squares were exceptionally quick -- started with batik 2.5" strip sets from Connecting Threads (Sunset and Mountainside collections) and then did the tube method. I have three fabrics from the collections to use for the borders.

On point -- randomly arranged

Rows -- light center

I like them both. The first is nice because they're on point, the second one because it is a little more sophisticated, I think. My favorite is probably the second, though.

#2!!

sallie789 07-06-2011 02:58 PM

I like them both but the second would be my choice if I had to choose.

Debbie B 07-06-2011 03:17 PM

You should make two quilts, because I really like both layouts. But, if I have to choose I would pick #1. Please post a picture when you're finished.

grammiepamie 07-06-2011 03:23 PM

#2 is fantastic.

blueangel 07-06-2011 03:26 PM

snipforfun 07-06-2011 03:27 PM

I liked the #1 until I saw the #2. It is like a Prism glass in a lighthouse to me! I love it!

Carron 07-06-2011 03:33 PM

Both are great but I really like the first one.

Hahaha...I guess it's almost an even split of votes...so I'm posting another layout (still can be perfected but you'll get the idea). This one uses the on-point stripes but focuses the yellow/oranges in the center. (I started the arrangement too low so the top row is kinda cut off.)

Let's call this one option #3.

Better? Or do you prefer #1 or #2?

Option 3 - on-point with bright center

I like them both

BeckyL 07-06-2011 03:50 PM

I like three better than 1 but still like 2 the best.

carolaug 07-06-2011 03:50 PM

I think I like the second one the best.

dove 07-06-2011 03:51 PM

they're both great...but 2 is best...wonderful work!!!

BeeNana 07-06-2011 03:55 PM

#1 is so different that I am picking that. Lovely
Black fill in blocks on point and black border would be awesome. With the black fill in it would really define the design. Love it.

Gladys 07-06-2011 03:56 PM

I like #1.

BrendaY 07-06-2011 03:57 PM

#1 gets my vote!
