Learned Something New!

1 Attachment(s)
Yesterday we had a mini retreat and we learned how to make gathered flowers. They are fun and the possiblities are endless. When I got home, I finally pulled out my scary ruffler foot and it was pretty easy and made the flowers go together very quickly. These are a great thing to use that leftover binding for. Beware! They are additive.

Very pretty!

Raggiemom 08-05-2012 01:12 PM

Pretty cool, how do you do it?

Jingle 08-05-2012 01:17 PM

Great idea, makes pretty flowers.

Tartan 08-05-2012 01:25 PM

Those are pretty flowers! I wonder if you could put the hair clips on the back and put them on the baby stretchy head bands? I"ve seen the head bands done with artificial flowers but those could be made to match a special outfit. If it isn't a copywrite violation, I think we need a tutorial on them for QB.

Wow..those are all beautiful.

quilter824 08-05-2012 03:06 PM

Those are very pretty and a good reason to actually use one of the attachments that we seem to be scared of.

earthwalker 08-05-2012 03:10 PM

Cool. Wonder if it can be done without the ruffler....don't have that bit of technology on my vintage machine.

lfstamper 08-05-2012 03:12 PM

Very nice flowers. A tute would be great!

cmagee84 08-05-2012 03:13 PM

Beautiful! Hmmm, leftover binding...I have some of that....:)

SewSew2 08-05-2012 04:07 PM

What a neat idea, I see these on a little girls quilt. Bet you will come up with a guilt that has many of you flowers on it.

crafty pat 08-05-2012 04:16 PM

They are so pretty. Yes they can be made by making a long running stitch and pulling the fabric along the thread by hand.

debcavan 08-05-2012 05:18 PM

They are darling. I can see why they would be addictive.

HilaryK8 08-05-2012 06:20 PM

I agree. Tutorial time!

sewnsewer2 08-05-2012 06:33 PM

Tartan, I think they would work great on a headband. I put pins on the back of mine. Daughter will use one on her backpack and I'm using one on my sewing machine bag, and my school bag. I'll try to come up with instructions soon. They are fun!

Absolutely, Earthwalker, the first two two-tone ones I did without the ruffler and then decided to pull it out. You just pleat the fabric as you stitch 1/4" from the raw edge. Pleating was really pretty quick and was better than gathering.

Diane007 08-05-2012 07:11 PM

very pretty...:)

bamamama 08-05-2012 07:14 PM

Very nice and using leftover binding to make them is an excellent idea.

Cute I'll have to try that , thanks for showing them to us.:)

TanyaL 08-05-2012 07:33 PM

I decorated a baseball cap this weekend and put a flower on it after I had covered the top with fabric. This would have made it easier.

sew_Tracy 08-05-2012 07:48 PM

Yes, you can! Just leave the leftover binding folded. Then run a long stitch about 1/4 inch from the cut edge. When you've done the whole length, pull the BOBBIN thread to form gathers.

Caro 08-05-2012 09:54 PM

Looking forward to seeing more...did you use binding from the store?

SueDor 08-06-2012 02:31 AM
