What a gorgeous quilt! Glad you decided to get brave and move out of your comfort zone--it's a hugh success. As to the name, the colors remind me of a sunset in the desert (kind of). I know that's not much help, but there it is!

Did you start out in the middle doing your FMQ? Is that a design you made up? Did you draw the design on paper first? I am wanting to try something like your FMQ.
THat is a very pretty quilt, you put it together beautifully!
I love the final choices.......beautiful quilt!

Aren't you glad you made that sacrifice and headed out to the LQS? Your quilt is Gorgeous. I love the colors, especially the borders. Your FMQ looks great, too. Seeing your results makes me brave enough to FMQ myself.
You should be very proud of it - the colours are wonderful, and so is the fmq - well done!
Very Beautiful and I really like the quilting you did on it.

at first I made LOTS OF plans: tried to draw a design on paper, threw it away b/c I didn't like the design any more AND found it difficult to keep the paper in place and sew on it. Then draw a design on Press 'n Seal and sew on it. Technically it worked, but I didn't like it so much. After all, I roughly divided the quilt into four sections, marked those with pins and started from one edge and made my way to the pins. After having finished the first quarter, I turned the quilt and started from the next edge. I don't think in things quilting one can come up with a totally new design of ones own. That's like reinventing the totally new own wheel to me ;-). I somewhere saw a pattern called Clamshell and modified it a bit, making my arcs more like bows or teardrops. This made it easier to connect the four quarters of the quilting. My vote: Just go for it, and don't sweat it too much. Guess how I know ;-). Clear like mud? If not, please don't hesitate to ask, I'll give my best to answer and describe what I've done. Go girl, you can do it! Anne |

After looking at it for a few days, I disliked the color combo more and more. Unfortunately, this required a trip to my LQS, but sometimes you just have to make some sacrifices, don't you  . This was my second attempt at FMQ with my domestic sewing machine, so please don't look too closely. Still need a name for it. Any ideas would be appreciated. I thought something like Box Of Jewels, but not sure about it yet. Thank you for looking, Anne Your quilt is lovely by the way, and I agree these colors are better. |
I think it's beautiful!
great job and such pretty colors
That is beautiful! I love Box of Jewels for its name.
Great quilt and your quilting is wonderful! Keep up the good work!
I really like the colors you used, and the fmq is great!! I have yet, to try it, but hope too soon.
I think anything with the word jewels for the name would be perfect! |
Good job!!

but could you tell me how you made the circles, swirls? Anne T thanks for the answer! I'd like to try my hand at this one! |

Wow, thats a hard one, b/c I just did it freehand, LOL. But to describe it, I'd say, I started with something like a "U" turned upside down, or like a horseshoe. Then I went back, making the bow a bit larger and then took a third turn. These three turns gave me the opportunity to chose my quilting direction better. When I wanted the pattern to go to the left, I started with a "U" from right to left. The good thing is, you can change the direction of your bows at ANY time. It's not noticeable when you're done, neither where the imagined quarters, which I marked with pins, meet. Did this make any sense? If you want me to make and show a drawing, don't hesitate to let me know. Thank you for your interest, Anne |

Love your quilt -- colors, design, thread and even the name is perfect. Your free motion quilting looks to me like it could be a version of "Hooked on Feathers" without actually being feathers. A handdrawn picture of your quilting might help us visualize better. Thanks for showing and telling.

It's beautiful! How about naming it "Kalidescope of Jewels"?

The thread I used is "Crushed Grapes", a King Tut thread, which the owner of my LQS disliked a lot and had to tell me straight away, when I showed her the finished quilt. YIKES! First I was shocked and had to sleep over it to digest it, the next day I was fine with my choice again. Taste is nothing to fight about, is it? |
Your quilt is beautiful and the shopowner is very blunt about her opinions. If she wants to make one, she can chose what she wants. This is your quilt and your fabric and thread choices are gorgeous!
Ilike the name of your quilt too. Marla |
Beautiful quilt and quilting
Love your quilt and love the name. You're set!
Your quilt is gorgeous! Your color choices are excellent, stunning. and your fmq is very good. The thread color lends itself very much to your quilt. Woondebaah!
It's beautiful. And your quilting is also You should be proud of yourself I would be. The colors are great. I would have never came up with that combo but it works and works so well. Great quilt.
Your quilt & quilting are beautiful. With fmq like that you don't need a longarm quilter. I am trying to learn fmq, too. It's fun, but I need a lot of practice. I bought the book Hook on Feathers recently and that has helped out greatly. Your fmq reminds me of the book. Thanks for sharing.

Ooh, I like the colors. Your quilting really makes it special.
Plum purty---yep good name
Anne, I just finished a king-size patriotic quilt. Had hubby help me place blue masking tape across the middle. Started in the center making stippling when that half was done, turned it around and did the other end. You have encouraged me to break out on new designs. God hates a coward, right?
Gorgeous.
It's beautiful, AnneT! And your quilting is very very good! Is it a gift or for yourself?
Very pretty! You did a great job!!
