Was the black fabric heavy or just a normal cotton? Your quilt is absolutely wonderful. One of THE best denim quilts i've seen. Thanks for sharing.

It is gorgeous! And full of memories, too!

Bluebonnets 09-25-2015 05:20 PM

Very nice! Love the black with it!

JuanitaBean 09-25-2015 06:27 PM

The black is Kona cotton 1" strips you do 1/4 seams so it end up 1/2" sashing around the squares.

DivaDee 09-25-2015 07:43 PM

The patterned fabric really stands out. Is it flannel?

JuanitaBean 09-25-2015 08:29 PM

No it printed denim I got yes a go for a skirt

copycat 09-26-2015 02:58 AM

Great quilt! I have a denim quilt since 1976 and it still looks new after all these years!

twinkie 09-26-2015 04:47 AM

I love the way this one turned out. And oh the memories you have created. I have never seen a stained glass denim quilt. Looks great.

Snooze2978 09-26-2015 06:38 AM

By chance what type of fabric did you use to frame the denim blocks..........regular cotton or black denim? And is that white/beige denim as I know I have some in my stash but just needed to know if you used all denim on the top or mixture of fabric types? Great layout.

JuanitaBean 09-26-2015 08:24 AM

It is all denim fabrics even the print fabric. The black is Kona cotton. If you want to use a reg. fabric I would put iron on interfacing on the back to help it last longer. I used all color of denim I have from real light blue. stonewash, med/dark blue, black. you can use whatever you have it will look good, the black pulls it together.

Thank for you nice comments everyone.

Thank you.

rosiewell 09-26-2015 03:20 PM

wow, kudos to you for dealing with jeans fabric, it looks very nice!

kaylfordsollimo 09-27-2015 01:53 AM

I like your design. A few questions - (1) How big is it? (2) What batting and backing did you use? and (3) Is your quilt really heavy?

Cjgraham 09-27-2015 10:08 AM

Segues I will saving my old jeans too now. Beautiful job.

JuanitaBean 09-27-2015 12:17 PM

Kay size is 50"x 67" 2) I used black 80/30 Hobbes Levi backing 3) yes it is heavy. Next time I'll use a lighter Levi fabric for backing and I think I will use a Flannel or lighter batting. If I use flannel I will wash the flannel 2 or 3 time before I use it for a batting. If you need more info. PM me.

Your Jean quilt looks fantastic :)

mjhaess 10-10-2015 12:28 PM

You did a great job..

inkyfingers 10-19-2015 01:24 PM

Ooooh - I've seen several pictures of a quilt of a similar pattern online, and it inspired me to buy interesting colours and patterns of jeans at the thrift store. I've found fantastic florals and a multitude of different colours from pink to purple, turquoise and orange, and of course, a million shades of blue. I get them in the largest plus sizes, because it's all about the fabric I can get out of them, of course.

I too, hope to make a pretty stained glass denim quilt like this.

cellin 10-13-2017 09:11 AM

Would you mind sharing how many of each size block you cut?

Jordan 10-13-2017 04:57 PM

I absolutely love your denim quilt. I have a bunch of my dad's jeans and just have not known what to do with them. Maybe your denim quilt has inspired me. I was thinking about making a rag quilt with them but I like your design better. Do you need a denim needle and special thread? Did you have it quilted by a long arm quilter or did you quilt it yourself?

JuanitaBean 10-13-2017 05:16 PM

Size of squares are 2", 4", 6", 8" 10" and 12"sqs.

JuanitaBean 10-13-2017 05:48 PM

I cut about 3- 12", 4-10", 10-8", 20-6", 60-4",and 80-2" in Light blue, Med. blue, and Dark blue it is good to cut some extras of all the denim. Yes I long arm my on quilt. yes you need a larger needle size 100 if you do it your self, use a good thread. Cut your strips in between block into 1" strips. Sew with 1/4" seams.(I used Black Kona cotton fabric). Have fun making your quilt

quiltingshorttimer 10-13-2017 07:34 PM

very cool! I lovet that design with denim and yes, flannel instead of bat would work fine.

twinkie 10-14-2017 02:56 AM

That turned out so good.

lblank42 10-14-2017 08:53 AM
