Lily's Quilt ~ for a sweet Down's Syndrome baby
4 Attachment(s)
Sweet little Lily, born with Down's syndrome, needed a bright, highly textured quilt, and that is what she got.
I used texture-magic for the small "L", the rest of the letters are minkee. The dot for the "i" has a crinkly bow hiding under the stitching. If you look closely, there are little "Day of the Dead" skulls on some of the black and white print. Lily's parents are amazing in SO many ways, but rather than go on and on, I will just tell you that they run a YWAM (Youth With A Mission) base in Colorado where they equip young people for a snow-boarding ministry. This look does appeal to them and the young people they work with. |
Well, I like it! You did an excellent job! Lots of textures and sounds for little Lily

Lily will love it as much as her parents. Adorable. My neighbor just found out they're little boy has Down's. They are just excited about his arrival considering they were told they would never have children. They have decided to see what day he will be born and that Saint's day will be his namesake. Dad is hoping for Michael and would be proud to call him Jr.

That is an outrageously fabulous quilt!!!!!!
Cute quilt, but I'm wondering why you felt it necessary to point out the fact that it was made for a little girl with Downs Syndrome?
its really nice! i like the texure of the letters
Oh that is adorable. Sometimes you must do things to please the parents. They are the ones who will put the quilt out for baby to use. Very nice!! let's not be picky about too much information either.
very nice!!!!!
Great quilt! I like how the letters are puffed up.
What a cute quilt. I am sure the parents will love it.
I love your quilt, the bright colours and how you quilted it. How old is the little girl, she is sure to have fun with it. Thank you for sharing.
Cute quilt. It's fun and funky. I'm sure the baby will enjoy all the different textures. It also looks to me like a quilt that could become a wall hanging when she is a teen. Great design.
Lily will love grabbing and chewing on that!!! Great idea.
Lots of bright colors , what all babys like.Very pretty.

Beautiful quilt - the baby will be fascinated by all the textures, colors and patterns! This is one of the best baby quilts I've seen....great job!
Really great job!
Awesome quilt. Thank you for sharing the details of the materials you used in the letters.

Being a mother of a "downs child" I agree with Oh Munner, why do people need to point out the this quilt or anything is for a child with downs syndrome? Would they do it if the child was blonde, chubby, blind, black or white? My son is now 46 years old, and all his life I have found people who label him..and it makes my blood boil...he is not "downs", he is a gift from God and God didn't put a label on him...people did.
Wonderful idea! She is a special little girl in so many ways!...
God Bless You, Penny |
Lily will love it!
Sweet quilt.
bright and pretty
Great quilt for any child. Thanks for providing the pictures of the "crinkle bow"; never would have thought of that. Love the third picture where you can see all the texture. Great job!
Fabulous quilt! Lots of visual and tactile stimulation for little Lily, too. You did a wonderful job with it.

An excellent idea.
It is perfect, and very colorful.
AMEN, sewbizgirl! I did not take it as "oh no" how awful. I took it a explaining the bright beautiful colors and textures, that Lily could feel and learn from. I have made several texture quilts for both blind and sighted babies. and when I have posted them, I usually point out the ones for blind childtren, just to explain why they have so many different fabrics and not very much color.
Very cute & colorful.
I love to hear the stories about recipients! For me it provides context and a way to picture the person who will receive the quilt. And if the recipient is gray-haired and chubby I want to hear that too. It's a beautiful quilt - love the color combinations and the large letters. I've always had trouble making applique letters for quilts, so congratulations!
Love it a lot. Its a perfect texture and color combination.
Tactile recognition is so important to certain "special needs" children. Lily is a lucky girl to have you....:)
