Last month my 9 yr old granddaughter called to tell me that she was still using the crib quilt I made for her. "But, Grandma, it's too small for my bed!". Now, is that a hint or not? And, of course, she wanted it yesterday. So I decided on a Double Irish Chain - 1.) because I love the pattern and 2.) because it's so quick and easy. Because she's 9 I didn't want anything too youthful and wanted something that would grow with her. So, I used her favorite colors and quilted butterflies on it to add just a bit of whimsy. I'll deliver it today and will expect a call from my grandson tomorrow.

sounds like you have a future quilter here!! You need to start her off with learning to help you make the next one. If she's not nearby, take a trip!!

I gave Lily the quilt. Asked Andrew what he thought of it. He said "I guess it's ok." So, I said, "So, you don't want one?"
His reply was "I didn't say that. But how do I know what a quilt is supposed to look like?" He's 13.

Harmony 09-01-2010 04:42 PM

What a pretty quilt! I love the colors too. The butterflies are cute. Let us know how she liked it. Great job.

Joan 09-02-2010 07:19 AM

You are going to be one popular grandma after you deliver that one.

Your butterfly quilting is exquisite!

MeMeX8 09-02-2010 08:08 AM

Dont know if I would go into quite as much detail for Andrews quilt. "What is a quilt supposed to look like"? Give me a break! Maybe a nine-patch for him in his favorite colors might be a good idea.
Your quilt is just lovely and what GD wouldnt just love to snuggle with it, especially with the butterflies. It just seems that butterflies and little girls go together! Keep up the good work!

GeriP 09-02-2010 08:13 AM

How sweet that is -- and you did a wonderful job -- love the butterflies.
