I made these after I saw them in a children's store for $58.00. I bought the t-shirts and I already had the fabric. I made the ruffles and attached to the t-shirt ( #2 I attached double ruffles to the hem of the t-shirt, #1 I attached double ruffles at an angle and attached a bow at the waist made from grograin ribbon). I then made shorts from the ruffle fabric. You can also buy inexpensive shorts and sew ruffles around the leg hemline. Don't forget the hair assessories. You can glue a bow made from the fabric or ribbon to an inexpensive hair band. Buy inexpensive flip flops and glue the bows on. You will have a designer outfit for pennies.

So cute. Was just in our local Joanns this am. They had the summer t-shrts for kids on clearance. Not sure if just our store. I have seen them in Michaels this time of yr for $3 ea too. Cute. Thanks for sharing.

I have 2 little grand daughters 51 weeks apart who are having their party Saturday (age 2 and 3). I had to make 2 of everything. I love to sew when I am not quilting and I am always looking for ways to make it pretty and cost as little as possible.

When I was in HS and college in the late 80s, we took tshirts and added skirts. We used coordinating ribbon around the seam line. Of course we were all rail thin back then! But I wore those til they were threadbare!

Those are adorable! You are very clever!

irishrose 05-26-2011 09:09 AM

I have been doing these for at least 25 years. I usually add an appliqued flower of the skirt fabric to the top so it looks coordinated. Your pocket works, too.

These are darling.
