Little Letters

1 Attachment(s)
My dear QB friend invited me to do this Block of the Week from Temeclua Quilt Company. http://temeculaquiltco.blogspot.com/...chool.html?m=0

We're having so much fun shopping our stash for these darling letters. They finish at 4.5". Super easy. Cutting to sewing maybe 10-15 minutes. They post two letters a week. So far we're both on schedule.

AZ Jane 09-27-2014 07:29 AM

OK, I admit I have a headache this morning but for the life of me, I can't see where to sign up. Am I being especially dense today or is there a trick?? Help?? Yes, today I am pitiful........................LOL

oksewglad 09-27-2014 08:10 AM

I've been sewing them too. And yes they are really easy! I love the I spy fabrics you are using...perfect for a little one, aren't they. I may copy your idea and make another. I'll take pics and share in a day or two. I have apples to pick this weekend....

Thanks for sharing...

Quiltlady330 09-27-2014 08:28 AM

I love that you are using whimsical fabrics. I never quite know how to use them. This is a great idea.

You aren't pitiful. I think I've been half a person today. :D. Here is the link again to the Temeclua Quilt Company site. You just follow it or check it twice a week and she'll have the directions for that week.

Do post! Fraew and I both think it would be precious done in 30's.

Thanks for posting. Thought ALL the LQS had closed in the area I live. Didn't know this LQS existed. Not sure if I can reach it by bus.

Auntevie 09-27-2014 12:05 PM

How clever to use fabric with pictures on them that start with that letter! Finding fabrics for each letter woukd be a fun challenge!

ube quilting 09-27-2014 12:27 PM

Adorable. Love the letters and your use of fabrics. Hope you find all you need in your stash. I might want to try this too.
peace

Auntevie 09-27-2014 03:14 PM

I have dug in my 1 1/2" strips for the letters so who knows what fabrics will show up. I choose the light fabric of acorns and oak leaves from my stash. I have also cut 1 wof strips 2 1/2, 2, 1 1/2 and 1 1/4" wide as these seem to be the most common widths of light fabrics that are being used. The 1 3/8" cuts I trim from the 1 1/2. It makes quick work of cutting the light pieces from these "precuts".

You will notice I have some of the sashing on. Using the photo as a guide, I went into EQ and did a mock up and calculated I would need 71--1 1/2 x 4 1/2" rectangles. I cut 3--4 1/2" strips wof and proceeded to cut out the 1 1/2" needed sashes. I plan to sew the sash on the top of each letter. I need to cut 42 1 1/2" squares for the corner stones and sew another rectangle to the square vertical sashes. Next I will sew them onto the sides of each letter. I'm a little confused as Temecula says we will need 36--any thoughts? My EQ mock up in a 5 x 6 setting allowing for 26 letters and 4 pieced blocks.

Fraew 09-27-2014 07:15 PM

High 5 oksewglad!

I also cut 1.5" and 2.5" wof of my background. Cutting for these is fast but even faster (really girls 5 minutes plus or minus to cut) having the background precut. Sewing is about 10-15 minutes depending on how much frog stitching was needed. He he

SheriR 09-27-2014 08:57 PM

Seems like we're all on the same track. Except you, OK!!! I'm going to have to take a close look now. Ice really just been sewing, waiting for clues, getting reminders from fraew(thank you!!)

zennia 09-28-2014 02:43 AM

Your little letters are so cute and you are very clever to use fabric to match the letters. i have been printing out the patters-one coming today- but have'nt started it yet. I want to make it for my granddaughter who is an elementary school teacher. I think it will be cute hanging in her classroom.

IQuiltnFL 09-28-2014 04:06 AM

I love alphabets and text in quilts. Those eggs are adorable!

nwm50 09-28-2014 05:50 AM

Love that Krispy Kreme fabric!!

You are welcome, AZ Jane:). Got my "G" done after 10 am church this morning and before dinner made--yeah that fast.

Caswews 09-28-2014 05:08 PM

Very nice/pretty !!!

SheriR 09-28-2014 05:29 PM

I won't get to G until Wednesday. Maybe we'll have H by then. I'm so glad you're joining us oksewglad!

bkb7957 09-28-2014 06:18 PM

Gotta try this. Been trying to use up my stash and scraps. This will work for some of them. Thinking about making 4 or 5 of each letter for a couple of quilts. And maybe a phrase or bible verse quilt or something. Thanks for the post

oksewglad 09-28-2014 07:00 PM

It looks like we are getting a group together!
I had thought of making a couple more, but decided I better not start yet another project, bkb7957. As there are 4 patchwork blocks in the setting, maybe you could put your phrase/Bible verse there instead. Just thinking...

bkb7957 09-28-2014 07:43 PM

How do you find it. I went to the site but found no letter tutorials. And today is Sunday. Feel the need to say and sew my ABC's. Lol.

#1piecemaker 09-28-2014 07:50 PM

How cute!! Can't wait to see how it looks when you reach Z

This link should give you all the patterns she's posted. A-G. She also posted the whole quilt. It's very cute!

Oh, Sew Cute! I need to make these. On another online quilting group several years ago, I did ABC charm swaps of 6 1/2" squares and have several sets. Now I just need to find a background fabric and I would be ready to go!

I got home from watching princess golf for two days. She plays for University of Texas at Tyler. Her team took FIRST! And she personally took FOURTH over all. We are very proud. BUT BACK TO LETTERS!!! Here's G. I nearly made it as soon as I walked in the door. Fussy cut start to sew and press finish, it took me 16 minutes. I tried to get giraffe necks and legs in as much as possible. :D
