Our DS and DIL presented us with a new boy 6 weeks early. He's doing fine and off the respirator but still has feeding tubes. G'ma kicked into high gear and made this little quilt for him. I read that red and black are good colors for babies so started with bandana fabric on the back (no pic) and proceeded to make an overall Sam. The red plaid that corners off the diamond is from his GGpa's shirt who passed a month ago. The border is an Old McDonald print, but in our world "Grandpa has a farm, EIEIO."

What a precious quilt!! Congrats on the new grandchild.

Had 2 boys in the NICU. Both doing beautifully. PM me if you have any NICU questions. Our primary nurse actually taped black and white photos to the isolette for my first son. Major color contrast is great for them. We also laminated the photos so they wouldn't be destroyed (17.5 week stay in NICU with one boy, 3 week stay with second son). Label quilt very well if brought into the hospital.
Cute quilt! |

Beautiful. Congrats on your new grandbaby.

Very cute! I think I would just hang on to it until the little guy makes it home. It would be awful to get it lost in the hospital.

Congrats! Glad he is doing well. We had 2 premie nephews in NICU for several weeks each. They are 3 and 1 now and biggest of all the little cousins!
|
Congratulations on your bundle of joy and I love the quilt.

Congrrats on the new addition and my prayers are with him that he will grow quickly and soon go home. We also have a new grandson that was 2 1/2 months early and was in the hospital for all that time. He is doing great, home with his Mom and Dad now. It is amazing what they do for the preemies now days! His quilt is very cute.

granny_59 and everyone, Thanks for the well wishes and prayers. Positive reports everyday. Figure he will be in hospital for a month so may take a trip to NC in a couple weeks to releive the other Grandma who's helping with the 18 month old.

Congratulations on your new gb. We just brought ours home on Sat. from NICU (a boy), he was about 5 weeks early and also had the feeding tube. Your quilt is a wonderful keepsake for the parents. I am also working on an applique McDonald Farm quilt, that I started about 7 weeks ago, so far only completed the blocks, no quilting yet, because I had to do babysitting while the little one was in the hosp. I hope to get started on it again since he is home and will try to post a picture when I am finished.
I spent all of my time between babysitting, making doll clothes to fit the little one (he was 4 lbs.) They fit perfectly and the gowns were so easy to get on and off and have the monitor wires coming out of the bottom. He wont be in them long as he is growing so fast already. Best wishes and blessings for your gb. Anne |
I say he's a lucky little boy to get you for a Grandma. I also see more quilts in his future! Beautiful!
|
Remember the days so long ago that my boy spent 8 days for being 6 weeks early. I was welcomed change as i was the only parent who was there twice a day for four hours a day. Saw only one other parent in those days. Keep in mind i was over an hour and a half one way away. Never so happy to bring him home. Make sure that you spend time "kangarooing". The closeness really helps them continue to develope.

Awwww! So glad he's doing well.

What a great quilt for a precious baby

Congrats on the new grand baby, and cute quilt!!

Launie--thanks for that insight. Maybe it will go home with Mom and Dad instead.
I just finished three 24 x 24 flannel charm blankets--no filler between the top and flannel back. Just a little something to wrap a wee one in. Two are boy themed; the other all pink for a girl. Hope the NICU can use them. |
Hi Gladie, Congrats on the wee one! Jackson is a sweet name, my first grandson's name is the same! He just had his birthday yesterday. 4 yrs old, I can't believe it. I wish your grandson the best and home soon with mom and dad. You are sweet to make premmie quilts for the NCIU, I am sure they will appreciate your contribution and love.
