I made this back in 2006. I took a sewing machine with me on one of the many cruises we have been on (23 in 10 yrs, 218 days total at sea with another 30 days coming up). Anyway, I needed to paper piece log cabins so they come out right. So, I pieced all the blocks on one cruise. When we got home I sewed the blocks together and quilted it and put the binding on the front. On the next cruise I added the flowers and leaves and hand buttonhole stitched them on and hand sewed the binding to the back. There are 20 different black and white fabrics and 20 white on white fabrics. See the dog and cat fabrics? LOL!
I only did straight line quilting on this. I loaded the quilt on the diagonal and quilted it with my channel locks for the straight line quilting. |
It's beautiful!
Just stunning, but didn't you say, you made it for me? :-P |

Just gorgeous! I love a great log cabin quilt! Love the red tulips as well. Great job with quilting, sometimes a simple top quilting really sets off the quilt, and yours is perfect!

Heather, here is how you find time to quilt on a cruise. LOL! (Back on ship after an excursion at St. Thomas, VI)This is a full size quilt I took to hand quilt. While standing in the buffet line one day I was talking with the guy in front of me. He said, Oh, you are the lady quilting up on the lido deck. He had only seen me from the back at that point. LOL! On our first cruise DH would fall asleep in a deck chair every afternoon. So I started taking a quilt to work on. He tells everyone he naps because I quilt and I tell everyone I quilt because he naps.
On one cruise I was up in the Crows Nest and a passenger asked if I could sew a button on a skirt for his wife. I did. Another, jokingly, asked if I could let out his tuxedo pants. LOL!Told him I could have but I didn't have the right color thread. |
very stunning; love the red centers!
