this is for my daughter and her husband in tx. he returned from iraq the day after thanksgiving. during the massacre at fort hood my daughter said that was the one time she said a prayer of thanks that her husband was "safely" in iraq. if he had been home he would have been working very near the site of that terrible event.
i will be sleeping under this quilt tonight as tradition says this will bring blessings to the recipient. |
That quilt is Awesome, He will be so proud. As a Grandmother who has 2 grdsons in the Military. I thank your family and him for all He has done for his country. My oldest is in the Navy he is a corpsman and has done 3 tours in Iraq. The other is the Youngest Grdson in the Army Reserve and I pray our stupid President doesn't take the reserves. My opinion only.

Beautiful quilt. what a special gift for your daughter and son. Thank your son-in-law for his service. My daughter is Army reserve and just returned from a year in Iraq. She was in Afghanistan 3 years ago for 15 mos. Hopefully your family can stay home for a while!!!

Just beautiful!
|
I love this quilt and I am sure your kids will too!!! I had never heard about this tradition, but I LOVE it!!! :D :D :D
|
thank you all for the kind words. i will forward your expressions of gratitude. i know my SIL will appreciated them. to all of your loved ones who are serving, pass along my gratitude also as well as many prayers for their safety. our military and their families do the heavy lifting for the rest of us.
p.s. i made a totally glaring error in putting the blocks together, i hope my daughter just thinks it is artistic license, LOL!! i did not catch it until i looked at the pics. kings size quilt are just too big for me. if i start another i hope you all will lovingly recommend that i have my head examined.lol!!!! |
Beautiful!!!!
|
It's beautiful. I always love the ones with glaring errors the most. :0)
I also sleep beneath the special ones. |
Absolutely stunning.
|
Very beautiful...the log cabin is one of my very favorites for its symbolism of hearth and home.
Our son is in Iraq, too, and I would ask for prayers for Steven's safety. Thanks!! |
If you made an error in that gorgeous quilt, I can't see it. Can any of you veteran quilters find it? Amish quiltmakers deliberately make an error because only Christ is perfect.
|
Glaring error??? What glaring error????
|
That is beautiful!

So very beautiful! Tell your SIL we send our heartfelt thanks for the service for our country's citizens and for Jim Gem's daughter too that they have provided and JlJack's son, Steven, we will remember in prayer. Also, thanks to Bill'sBonBon for her son serving 3 yrs!! To all others on the board whose family members are serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, we thank and pray for them daily. Your daughter and SIL will really appreciate your heartfelt love in that quilt!

The quilt is beautiful.

It's quilts like this that make me loooove the log cabin block. Your quilt is absolutely perfect and beautiful. I think I can safely say it's one of those "quilter's quilts" - we all know and get just how terrific it really is. I know your family will love it.
I'd never heard the notion of sleeping under your quilt before giving it away. What a neat idea...maybe I'll try it sometime! Glad your SIL is safe and home. Give him and your daughter my profound thanks for his service to our country. I hate war, fighting and everything it stands for, but I am so grateful for all our military and the safety we enjoy because of their sacrifice. I hope that makes sense... I hope you have a terrific holiday season! |
Absolutely stunning! This is a quilt made with lots of love and it shows.
|
Lovely, simply lovely.
|
That's a beautiful log cabin. I love everything about it.
|

Thats an absolutely gorgeous quilt! So your soldier is returning home!! Please pass on thanks to him....my brother finally got to retire from the service last Fri and come home. Hopefully he won't be called back... :D

The quilt is gorgeous. Thank your SIL for his service. I am an army brat and my husband is a Vietnam Vet. In fact I was working on base at Fort Hood when we met in 1983.

ECHO you! Thank you for your service, dear soldier. And, thank you, soldier's family, for your service as you kept the home fires burning for your soldier until he arrived safely home from his service. When my sons go to battle, the last thing they say is: Make sure my family is taken care of. I will take care of my men .. and, I can do a better job of it if I know my family is supported by you. I pray no soldier goes to war without a family. I am very proud of soldier families who take care of the home fires. |
That's wonderful.
|
Great quilt and a very special gift.
