This is the latest quilt I made. Will be shipping it off to Arizona in a few days.
I like to make quilt for this lady. She calls me when she wants a new one tells me the size, colors she want and leaves the rest to me. Hope she will be please with what I did.
I hadn't made a lone star for so many years I forgot how to do one. Had to go searching on the web for instructions.
Picture may look a little dark but if view full size I think it will look better.

It's beautiful!!!

Barb_MO 01-05-2010 10:11 PM

Thank you all.
There were a few "fists" for me in the quilt. Most of the fabrics are batiks (a first), some I bought from the LQS, but ordered some on-line (another first). The other first was to sew my two stripe and the brown borders all together in one long piece to use as one border and mitered the corners. Worked out just right, had about 6 inches left over from that and only a few inches left over on the last border...that was good because I had bought that fabrics about 4 yrs ago.

If you want a king size, this site has instructions. That happened to be the size I needed for this quilt, so worked out well for me.

Only problem with these instructions that I noticed was for the yardage needed....one was off, but you could use the left over for binding.

Beautiful job - I'm sure she will love it!

that's gorgeous. i love all those browns

Barb_MO 01-06-2010 09:07 AM

Thank you all for the wonderful comments. I strip piece my color sets and then sub cut at a 45 degree angle. Kind of tricky to get the points to match up...that's one of the things I had forgotten about this pattern. I think I finally figured it out though.
One reason I like to do quilts for this lady is she and I like the same colors.
I have enough of my pieced panels to make me a purse. I haven't decided if I will cut them into diamond strips or leave them the way they are.

I sent this to my machine quilter. She has a very old quilting machine, only does 6 in. pantograph patterns. This pattern she calls tear drop or rain drops. I call it loop-t-loops.
