Here she is!! From what I can find out, her birthday is June 4th, 1946. :D Her name is Lina.
I need to take her apart and give her a good cleaning...she sews a *straight* stitch and purrs like a kitten, but the tension is off and no amount of playing with the top tension has helped at all. I'm fairly certain I threaded it properly, and I'm not going near the bobbin tension until I give her a very thorough cleaning. Aside from that, I'm thrilled! Just waiting until bedtime for the kids so I can get started on the cleaning without interruptions. |
What a beauty she is, have fun together! congrats :)

When you thread the needle thread from the inside out! That can cause the problem you are having. And be sure the bobbin is the right size and inserted properly.
Congrats :)

The bobbin looks to be correct and I definitely inserted it properly. There looks to be a fair amount of dust and fuzz on the inside, so I'm going to spend some time really cleaning her and take it from there. |

Congrats, Deema! And thank you for the pretty pic! I have 3 FWs, but never tire of seeing others' "baby pics"
Beautiful! I think mine is from 1946 too.
She a real beauty :-P :-P Enjoy your time with her.
Lovely!
Congrats! I just love mine. Clean her and she should be good to go! I do have another that I have to take in to the shop, the tension knob is all loose and needs to be set again! I don't think I will attempt that myself. I just sewed on my FW to do a paper piecing it was grand! I would like to invest in a 1/4" foot. Enjoy her!
Glad you have such a pretty FW!
Lina is sure pretty! Here's to many happy hours of sewing!
Lena is quite a looker! Hope you can get your tension straightened out quickly. They will sew with lots of gunk in them. Tough little girsl, they are. I had some burrs on my bobbin case that caused skipped stitches, but now she does a beutiful stitch. If you need help, there is a lot available on the Virtual section under vintage machines.
She looks good for 64 - (I'm the one who is 6 days younger than her).
Congrat hope you enjoy it, maybe one day I can get one too
I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine! If you haven't already found it, there is a ton of info on the web about Featherweights. Just google it. Also, if you need a manual, you can download one from Singer's website.
She is wonderful! Born on my birthday but a few years older kinda makes me partial to Lina. May you have fabulous days together!
She's so pretty! I love how gorgeous the side plates are on these older machines.
My FW Gloria says welcome! You will love it!
The first featherweight I bought worked great when I tested it....after rethreading it, I couldn't get it to sew properly...after SEVERAL hours of cleaning and going crazy I discovered that I was threading from left to right and it should be right to left...another thing I will mention...if you remove the plate to clean out the bobbin, be very careful when you put it back together,,,if you have the manual, read that part...there is a specific way the bobbin case fits back in...there is a little metal piece that sticks out ON THE BOBBIN CASE...this piece has to fit in between 2 parts of the bottom of the cover plate..turn the bobbin case until it fits into the cover plate...CANT BE DONE IF YOU SCREW THE PLATE DOWN FIRST... this is hard to explain and I probably didn't do a good job, but let me know if you need more help...this is another thing that nearly drove me crazy...until I figured it out...I have 2 machines..
Georgina and Lise and they are cute cute cute..enjoy... |
Oooooh hooooooooooooo...I'm lovin' her!!!!
I had trouble putting the bobbin case back in when I took it out to clean her. The book explains it well, but I didn't know what it meant until I did it incorrectly! Luckily, FWs are very forgiving.
She's a beauty Deema! Congrats!
I got the tension issue all sorted out. Turns out there were two different threads wrapped around the back of the bobbin race thingy. Of course, by the time I discovered that, it was already taken apart, so I went ahead and cleaned and oiled her up, put her back together and did some test sewing and perfect stitches with beautiful tension were the result! I KNEW, as soon as I saw those threads that I found my problem. :D
Thank you all for the warm welcome for my new baby. :D I'm pretty excited about her. |
Congrats!
Thanks for sharing- She's a beauty!

Interisting name. My Mothers name was Lina. She was of Finnish decent. I miss her every day ,she has been gone thirty years and never got to see me quilt.
I'm so glad you got her sorted out, Deema. Now get ready to fall in love all over again every time you two work together!
I have three featherweights and although I've been offered ridiculous amounts of moolah for them when friends come over to quilt with me, we will never part ways!! |

Oh, you lucky girl, you. She even has the fancy face-plate. I am soooo green. Doesn't look like she needs much cleaning up.
Beautiful machine. When done cleaning you will love sewing on it.
