My niece stopped over today to ask if I could do something with this quilt she had. It's a yo yo quilt that my mom made for her when she was just little. We figured about 38-39 years ago. I remember mom working on it and the more I looked at it the more I remembered it. I was about 12-13 years old. Her mother never let her use it much although she did keep it folded at the end of her bed for a few years. It's been stored in a storage bin for years and my niece just discovered it. It's pretty fragile and already held together by safety pins in a few spots. We are thinking we could attach it to a backing, do a border and she could hang it in her bedroom. Not a project I can start now but certainly something to look forward to.

Wow! It's beautiful! I think what you are planning for it is the way to go.

Awww what a treasure! It is awesome that she wants to preserve it :D:D:D

I agree with puttin it on backing. I would also consider having appraised for insurance reasons. It is truly a treasure!!

 I can imagine your DM must have put a lot of time into that quilt! Too bad it was never used! It is beautiful!

Yes, I think backing is a great idea!!! I think keeping and loving treasures like this one is soooo important. Also you should make a label of who made it and when and for whom it was made.

very nice

What a treasure :!: I would also tack the yo-yos on to the backing. :XD:

And this was made before we had the simple yo-yo maker available! Backing, label, sew up the pinned places - certainly a treasure! I wonder if many of these fabrics were from old dresses & shirts - seems likely in an era when most quilters were frugal. Good thing for me to emulate - frugality!
