Our region of the Red River Valley of the North has been going through a major flood this past week, and still goes on....I work for a college that closed their doors this week to help fight the flood. But, since I was virtually cut off from any major town, besides my own, I decided to start this quilt for a friend and neighbor of mine.
Now need to get it over to my mom's for her to quilt it, but that will wait until the flood waters recede, as it normally is a 2.5 mile one-way trip that has turned into a 25 mile trip. Since I was washing my own bedding, I just put this on my bed to take the pictures. |
I'm not sure...I think there is a Red River Valley in Texas too...... :?
|
WOW! You are fast! Pretty quilt! Stay safe and warm.

I wonder, I think it may be the same river, but our river flows north.....We do have some good news - it seems the Red at Fargo, ND has crested, which is about 30 miles from where I live. The Red at Fargo is at record levels....not sure what level it came to here in Abercrombie, but I'm thinking we may have passed the record from 1997. I know the Wild Rice, another river a couple of miles outside of here, had record levels. I'm pretty high and pretty safe from both rivers, but of course know people who have already lost their homes, or had to leave because of all the water.
We really need spring here....warm weather and no rain!!!!! |
Beautiful quilt!!.. now we know where the "rainbow" from that rain is.
|
Deb, your quilt is gorgeous. I'm glad to hear that you are safe and I'll keep your friends and neighbors in my prayers for those who have lost their homes and more. Stay safe and warm.

Beautiful quilt! Love the colors! :D
Last summer we had major flooding in East and Southeast Iowa. So I sympathize with the flooding! Alot of people lost their homes and have had major damages. The bridge from Burlington Iowa into Illinois was closed for several weeks due to the flooding. It completely wiped out a town across the brideg in Ill. They chose not to rebuild their town. Our local economy was badly affected with so many out of work and out of homes. Our thoughts are with all of you in the flooding! Great way to use your time while you wait! |
Wow! That's a beauty love the colors! I really love the border fabric too!
Stay safe! :D |

We really need spring here....warm weather and no rain!!!!! Your Red River. The Red River forms at Wahpeton, North Dakota and Breckenridge, Minnesota, passes through Fargo, North Dakota/Moorhead, Minnesota and Grand Forks, North Dakota/East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and then continues on to the province of Manitoba in Canada. Manitoba's capital — Winnipeg — is at the Red's confluence with the Assiniboine River, at a point commonly referred to as The Forks. The Red then flows further north before draining into Lake Winnipeg which is part of the Hudson Bay watershed. Probably more than you wanted to know. |

Beautiful quilt Deb!!
I see about the flooding every night on the news, and feel so bad for you all near it. Just thinking about all who may not have insurance, etc. Then the having to deal with the snow on top of the flooding issues too. Stay warm & dry and keep making those beautiful quilts! :-) |
Very pretty and you made it so fast! Keep safe.

Linda your dolls in your avatar are really cute!! I was into making angels one winter a few years ago. I'm not a doll maker but I had fun anyway. One of my angels came out looking alot like my mom! Go figure! I never parted with it but my neighbor wanted some of my angels and I was doing snowmen also. small doll size stuffed. Yours are so cute!!! |
Beautiful!

goregeous quilt! sorry about all the flooding but it does give you time to do alot of quilting!! stay safe and start another one!! :D :!: :!:
|
Beautiful quilt.
Stay safe - is flood season over yet? Went to school in SD and were always had floods in the spring trying to get back home to the east coast. |
My heart goes out to those that lost their homes and posessions in the flood. My mom's home was near the Lac Qui Parle River in Dawson, MN where it flooded twice while we were living there. The 1st time was in the early 1990's and the last time in 1997. A dozen or so homes were evacuated and by fall, most of the neighbors had moved. We were not going to have to go through it again. The cleanup is unbelievably hard work and emotionally draining.
My thoughts and prayers go out to those people that are living a disaster. Deb G..... |
I'm sorry to hear about the flooding! Stay safe and God Bless!!
Great quilt, so beautiful. What pattern is that? |
BTW, very nice quilt and I like the colors. What is the name of the pattern you used?

Great quilt kiddo. PLEASE be safe.
|
Beautiful quilt! Stay safe, warm and dry!
|
darn those floods!! beautiful work!!
|
Deb, beautiful quilt. Hope the danger, damage and inconvenience from the flooding will soon be over. It seemed so unfair to hear that you got a bad snow storm on top of the flooding.
|
beautiful quilt, love the pattern and the colors! Quilt label should reflect, made because of time made available from awful flooding.
Great job  |
