I was in the managers office showing them the wall hanging I quilted. A lady was in there and she ask me if I liked to sew, I told her I love to quilt. She told me she had a machine in a cabinet in her closet that she wanted to get rid of. I asked her what would you want for it and she told me I could just have!! I checked it out and this is what I ended up with.

ArtsyOne 05-15-2012 03:52 PM

I'm so happy for you! There's nothing like these old Kenmore machines for beautiful straight-line sewing.

serenitybygrace 05-15-2012 03:58 PM

Congratulations! I had a machine once that used cams. I loved it. It sewed really nice. You got this for free!!

lalaland 05-15-2012 04:34 PM

Wow, it looks like it's in really good shape!

Ms Grace 05-15-2012 04:45 PM

Congratulations!
She's beautiful.:)

decky 05-15-2012 05:49 PM

You are one lucky lady. The machine looks very clean and in good shape. If it hasn't been used for awhile you may want to oil it.

wolph33 05-15-2012 05:51 PM

wow that is a great vintage machine-congrats

Helen S 05-15-2012 06:11 PM

By golly, I think you hit the jackpot! Nice! These old machines are SO much better than what is available today. I'll take one of these basics any day over all the electronics. You can pretty much service them yourself and since they're mostly metal parts virtually nothing goes wrong with them!

Great gift. Hubby and laughed out loud when we saw the Greist attachments. My dad may have made those pieces, and DH inspected them. They both worked for Greist, later called MITE Corp. and one day my dad told me about this nice guy at work. I borrowed Dad's car for a summer job while I was in college, and when I went to pick him up one day he introduced me to this "nice guy." Forty-six years later, Dad is gone, MITE is in our distant past, but my guy is still very nice.

earthwalker 05-15-2012 06:56 PM

How cool is that! It looks as if it has hardly been used....Thanks for sharing the joy:)

sammygirlqt 05-15-2012 07:15 PM

My first electric machine in 1973 was just like your free gift and my daughter is now sewing on it. You can`t beat the old beauties.

lollygagging 05-15-2012 08:25 PM

sewdarnbusy 05-17-2012 05:13 AM

Very Nice.... Kenmore made some good machines back then. I bought a lemon in 1978. I hope yours is a gem.

sewmorethings 05-17-2012 05:22 AM

Looks like you are doing the happy dance for sure.......great gift for you

Geri B 05-17-2012 05:25 AM

great machine...just remember to give it a good oiling before you start...it has been sitting idle for a long time....even that big medal rod at the bottom needs some lubrication.....vital for the metal parts to run smoothly....and it will probably last longer than any of the new ones nowadays..........have fun......and oil and remove lint frequently........

delideb64 05-17-2012 05:27 AM

Cool beans :)

Bebbysews 05-17-2012 05:38 AM

You're so lucky to receive all that! I do a lot of sewing and quilting, but my favorite machine is the one I bought 47 years ago and it is an ADLER model 134. IT is a workhorse and will sew anything, including right over straight pins and many layers of fabric. It has cams that make beautiful stitches. I can almost sew with my eyes closed, I've used it so much. I've taken very good care of it and it's only been in the machine shop for repairs one time! The repairman said I should never trade it in because it's one of the best ever made!

Annaquilts 05-17-2012 05:51 AM

She is very pretty with cams and everything. Enjoy!

GramaLaura 05-17-2012 06:21 AM

Wow.....you were in the right place at the right time!! Enjoy your new machine.....looks like a good one :)

Latrinka 05-17-2012 06:22 AM

Great machine! I have a Kenmore that is about 45 yrs old, and it is a workhorse! Was even in a flood, stayed underwater for 3 days, and still sews like a dream!

callie 05-17-2012 06:23 AM

Pennydrop321 05-17-2012 07:53 AM

Wow, how nice of her to give it to you!

fmhall2 05-17-2012 08:02 AM

You are one fortunate gal. The old machines sure do work better than the newer ones, and as somebody said, they are all metal and not much can go wrong with them. I grew up with a New Home which we bought new in 1951, if I remember right. Had it for many years. The only thing wrong with the metal ones, is that you can't take them to a class. They are too heavy. Have fun with yours.
