WOW! What a nice find. Just my thought, but I would go with black sashing and a thirties print for the border.

I'm with Jingleberry - I like the idea of using a black sashing because it's a color than runs through all blocks (the butterfly bodies). I would definately use a floral to back it though and perhaps border in black, floral and bind in black again.

The butterflies are very pretty... Your Mom did a great job on them!

I would also pick a floral print for sashing and borders, what a treasure

Hmmm...what a great find! While the black does run through all the blocks.. I wouldn't use that for the sashing. I would pic a really fun tiny print in some bright fun color...maybe even polka dots or something fun. I'd use that for the sashing, but then I would use a very thin black accent on either side of the sashing....almost as thin as piping just to tie it together. I'm not sure if I would add another border, but might use the same sashing fabric making it wider..then bind in the black as well. I'd use your butterfly fabric on the back. Whatever you do..it will be really great looking.

I hate the circumstances for you though...but you can have fun with the quilt.

What nice blocks.

I would not use your butterfly fabric. I think it would take away not add to the blocks. BLack is nice or a soft yellow.

I think you should send them to me so I can get a true sense of the colors! LOL! These are beautiful blocks. I would select sashing in one of the darker colors in the butterflies (Darker pink?) so that the blocks will pop. But I am sure that others will have better ideas. Congratulations on this great find.

Do Americans lose homes to pay for medical bills? That just doesn't happen in Canada. It doesn't seem right to me that a senior would have to lose her house to pay health care costs.

If your insurance doesn't cover medical expenses and nursing home or long-term care facilities you have to sign over your home to Medicaid. Medicaid doesn't touch your house until the one that signs up for it passes away and also the spouse if there is one that is living in the home. But then Medicaid sells the house and wants repaid for all the expenses that they paid. Usually by the time Medicaid is thru with their bill there isn't anything left from the sell of the home. At the time that someone is sick or in need of nursing care it is helpful but the sad reality of it is that some people work all their lives to buy and pay for their home and end up losing it to Medicaid.

They remind me of a 30's quilt also and the green and pink would be pretty with the butterflies...they are beautiful !!
