These are great! There are 30 of them. They are 10" tall and hand stitched. The lady said her grandmother made them a few years ago but never finished them before she passed away (true or not), they are well done. Just wish I had the time to do something with them!

Harmony 07-11-2009 08:30 AM

SCORE!!!!!!

Lacelady 07-11-2009 08:33 AM

Oh, you must do somthing with these cute little girls - after all, the hard work is done, isn't it? I wish I could find things like this. If you don't want to do anything with them, pm me and I will take them off your hands for you.

ButtercreamCakeArtist 07-11-2009 08:43 AM

Very nice! I would've bought them, too...You'll find the perfect project for them someday!

judee0624 07-11-2009 08:52 AM

WOW! They are fabulous! A friend of mine is making them on her machine. I saw a quilt done with them recently at a shop. It wouldn't take long to put sashing around each block and make up a quilt.

such a keepsake...I can't believe she sold her grandmothers blocks....good catch

RedGarnet222 07-11-2009 09:50 AM

Is someone crazy? They sold these to someone out of the family? What is wrong with people!

I am sorry ... but, I know you understand what I am saying. These little sunbonnets tooks hours and days to make. It makes me sad for the maker they got rid of them.

I am happy for you though, because you will make them into something special and treasure them as your own.

Can you tell if there is interfacing on the back of the dolls?I have two kits I bought of thid little girl and one of the boy. Can't decide how to do them.I have seen where they sew the interfacin on then turn it,then no need to turn under the edge. I want to use the blanket stich on them once I get them on to the block.

There sure is a lot of them.Do you think that is more than one quilt?

beachlady 07-11-2009 10:45 AM

What a great find. Are you going to sell them on your ebay site?

butterflywing 07-11-2009 11:17 AM

those little girls have always wanted to live in new jersey. since my own children are grown and gone, i have lots of space. i am a very good mother. i come with excellent recommendations. they will be well fed and nurtured.

i will pay their fare from arkansas to new jersey. pm for my address. i'll be waiting to hear from you. i'm repainting the room right now in preparation.

Your soooo lucky!!! WOW

The Babe 07-11-2009 11:29 AM

I am curious as to what you had to pay for these. I can' believe someone would get rid of a handmade item of their mother or grandmother.

Yeah, I wondered about that, too. Great find! I have yet to go to a garage or estate sale and find anything like some of you people do. :(

marsye 07-11-2009 12:03 PM

Well thanks guys for all the comments. I have decided to sell them because I just don't have the time to finish them anytime in the near future. I hate for things like this to just sit in a box and get in bad shape so I would rather see someone finish them. If my mother or grandmother made them there would be no way I could sell them. I would make time to finish them! You guys will choke when I tell you this and maybe I shouldn't but I gave 2.00 for them! Would you have sold your grandmothers work for 2.00!!??? I think not!

ScrapQuilter 07-11-2009 01:01 PM

Wow --------- lucky you!!!!!!!

will be looking forward to seeing what you make with them.

Darlene 07-11-2009 01:14 PM

What a great find. I would hold onto them and eventually you will figure out what to do with those girls.

The Babe 07-11-2009 01:32 PM

How and where will you be selling these?

vicki reno 07-11-2009 03:46 PM

I once saw a baby quilt with them on it not near as nice as those and it was selling for over $150.00. You got a good deal! Congrats!

What a great buy!!

kwhite 07-11-2009 06:56 PM

I am glad you bought them. They should go to a true quilt lover. Even if it isn't you that uses them you will make sure they go to a deserving soul.

Teacup 07-11-2009 08:20 PM

I have a Sunbonnet Sue quilt that is one of my greatest treasures. My dear grandmother did it as a friendship quilt with members of her Sunday School class and neighbors about 1933 or so. Each woman embroidered her name on the block...one quilt in the corner, the other as streamer ribbons coming off the blocks. I remember some of those women from my childhood and have a group snapshot of my grandmother with some of them. Even more special is that my mother made a block (she was 10 and never quilted again) and my aunt, who was 9 then, also made a block. It has those great 30s prints and is beautifully hand quilted by my grandmother. My aunt is still alive and has one and I got the other. My mother is gone and I wouldn't sell this quilt at any price. I love family quilts. I'm blessed to have 4.

Bevanger 07-12-2009 05:41 AM

Ohhhhhhh man. You scored big time. They are so pretty.

sew4fun 07-12-2009 07:55 AM

Wow, almost makes me want to go to garage sales. I am not a fan of them and hardly ever go unless I see in the ad that they have fabric or sewing items.

marsye 07-12-2009 08:23 AM

Your missing out! :-o We furnished alot of our house from garage sales. I found a Thomas Kinkade framed print for 10.00 last year that is beautiful and hangs over my couch. The original price a few years ago was over 300.00, I don't know what it would sell for now.....but it ain't for sale. :P

Please make sure they go to a good home, someone who will appreciate them and honor all our grandmother's. Think of the time and effort her hands and heart put into those little girls. Yep, it is such a treasure of a find!

Patty44 07-13-2009 02:19 AM

That is true it doesn't seam like our kids take care of things like that. I made my daughter a nice quilt when they got married. It is long gone.Any way I never see it. So I have two I made for her when she was 13. She liked Michele Jackson and Rick Springfield. So we had the idea to take a picture of each of them to a Tshirt shop and have there pictures put on the quilts. The MJ qiuilt had the thriller album picture on it. It was made of black and white bandanas, the red blocks with white gloves on them. The RS quilt had his pic. on it,she said he liked pink purple and blue so that is what we used and it had hearts all over it,with the names of his songs on them. She never acted like she even wanted them. so I still have them in my ceader chest. Also have the red zippered jacket. She may want them some day. Or I may just give them to her kids to use if she dosn't want them. I tried to get her to sew just doens't seam interested in any thing but playing with the computer.

Quilt4u 07-13-2009 02:21 AM
