I found a Handiquilter frame on Craigslist yesterday for Fifty dollars! It is only currently set up to do 60" but that's fine for now. It works very smoothly! I'm going to set up my Bernina on it soon and give it a try! I've been toying with the idea of getting a quilting frame lately but I've never had an opportunity to work on one, so it is difficult committing to the prices of a new one just to find out if I like it. This should give me a good idea of what quilting is like on a frame.

Anyway, thanks for letting me share my excitment!

No, not kidding. I don't have a machine with a big throat though, so it's going to be limited use, but at least I'll get to try it out!

I have bought a lot of fabric online for the last 4 years from crazy4quilts.com. She is awesome and will answer any and all questions. I've bought several kits from her as well. I also have bought from Connecting Threads and Quilt in a Day. She's my favorite author,(Eleanor Burns) at least she makes her instructions so that even I can follow them. I'm trying to get up the nerve to start either an irish chain or the jewel box. Also bought a lot of fabric on ebay. Have always been happy with all fabric I received. That's my 2 cents worth :)

Happy Tails 03-26-2010 03:12 PM

OMG I think I posted that on the wrong post. SORRY!!!

What a great find. You were in the right place at the right time. Have fun with it.

lass 03-27-2010 05:39 AM

This is what I started with. A friends mother in law was a quilter and when she got to ill to even care for herself she gave it to me. I have since passed it on to another quilter as I loved using it so much, I wanted a full size handi-quilter.

Knot Sew 03-27-2010 05:45 AM

grandmafay 03-27-2010 01:06 PM

fifty bucks? i'll say it's a bargain........maybe i'll check out Craig's list for things. Thanks for sharing

garysgal 03-27-2010 09:56 PM

My husband did some plumbing for a guy and the guy paid him with a Handi quilter frame! His wife wanted to buy a Gammel(sp?) and so I got a good deal. Then my hubby bought me a Juki mid arm- you will love your frame!!
You might want to attach cords with "grippers" on each side to hold the fabric taunt after you load it all. Works great. I used those clamps that look like pliers but aren't and they hold the sides of the fabric. Have fun with your great deal!!

puck116 03-28-2010 06:49 AM

Congrats! I've always wanted to try also, but don't have the big money right now. Have fun.
