I am in the process of moving, and was sorting and packing up fabric when I came across these pieces. They came from my grandmother's stash, obviously. I'm guessing that the pink is from the 40's. Note the price on the tag--it is a full yard! The fabric is high quality and still in perfect condition. The supermacro on my camera makes the threads look really big, but they aren't. The little tag is less than in inch.
The second fabric is a blend, and I had to laugh. I'll bet you could date it even without the selvage info! LOL One yard of pink fabric in perfect condition Twenty four cents a yard!!!! Groovy fabric, man! |
What a find! What will you make?

And I just found this piece. It's a little under a yard. I may just have to make a little quilt using some of each.

Gee, these are just the sweetest fabric to find! LOL! She really liked pink, huh? Lucky you to have them in your stash.

What a great find. "Groovy fabric".
You ought to make a doll quilt as a keepsake(for yourself) with this fabric and feature the price tag to remember your grandmother and the times she lived in!

Oh my gosh. I'm old enough to remember Ben Franklin stores. My mother called it (and others like it) "the dime store."
great find, I love the green wild print I can see it appliqued on something.... awsome I'd keep that pink piece.
There are still Ben Franklins... I loved the one in Eugene?Springfield , Or but they quit selling fab's a couple of years ago.... they had good fabrics.
Is there enough for a scrub top? If not use something else with it.... Color block it.... Ther are a lot who sew scrub tops...
maybe you should frame the fabrics..and photocopy the price tag and put it in the frame too (otherwise it will fade )
maybe even put some photos in there from that time? Or do a memory quilt...let us know what you decide.. |
What a wonderful thing to find! I like Rhonda's doll idea. The psychadelic one is older than I am! That's the year my parents got married!
How cool, I think I have some of your 2nd print too, from my mom's stash and she probably got it from her mom, I'll have to look to see if the same colorway or a bit different...
I have a difficult time using stuff I know was from my grandma too (heck sometime I have a hard time cutting ANY fabric that is PRETTY to look at) |

Wow I think a dress in that second piece would be a real.. conversation piece! whacked up however it could maybe make an interesting stack and whack square if you offset it with a solid color accent.. the price was probably stiff back then for the pink fab. Luxury items. Sort of like fabric today.. I think everyone is thinking once, twice and maybe even three times before we just splurge on some.
Great find....it would be lovely to see what you do with this fabric. Ah...at least something of beauty was created in '63 (the year I was born!).
