Well, not exactly me. I went to visit a friend and she sews. Not too much, but keeps trying to get better. She uses a Viking. She told me they had to move her MIL to a nursing home and clear her house to sell. She took this beauty because she felt bad. She tried to sell it on e-bay but it didn't sell (lucky me). So, guess where she lives now. I learned to sew many years ago in one of this babies. when I turned it on and started sewing it was great, until I got to the full speed, when the machine started making that beautiful humming sound typical of the featherweight. I lost it. It made me cry thinking of my Grandmother teaching me to sew.
Here she is: |
You're so lucky!!!! Enjoy your new baby!
|
Congrats.
|
You will absolutely love it!! Give her a name, my black machine is named Babs and my white one is named Zelda, after my grandma! Love them both and they both sew like a charm. They will last forever.

She sure is beautiful!! Enjoy!

I have one that my DD gave me from a house she moved into. All it needs is a new cord and some tlc
You have convinced me I need to get it fixed, and the one that belonged to my grandma. Their names are Thelma and Nellie. Loved your story. Enjoy your new baby :-D |
Green with envy!! Lucky you. Today I found a quilt top done in 4 patches at a little shop where I stopped just by chance. It's at least a twin size and got it for $7.50. Will post pics later.

Nice. Have fun.
I am amazed it did not sell on Ebay. I didn't know that was possible, unless it was priced too high. I got mine on Ebay for $180 |
Wow! I just saw my first featherweight a couple of weeks ago. I have 2 old singers, a model 66 (1930) and a model 201 (1937). I love them.
But a featherweight!!!! I am drooling!:):) |
How exciting for you. I would imagine that her MIL is glad that her beloved machine found such a good home.:)
|
Awesome! How can that beauty not sell???? You were definitely at the right place at the right time! I have several and am now using the Centennial one and love it! You can date the machine and find all sorts of service and cleaning info and download the manual. Have sew much fun with it :)

Congrats on your new baby. She is so pretty.
|
So lucky!
|
Congrats. She's a beauty.
I currently am looking for one on e-bay for my birth year (55) and found a special one. Hope I can be as lucky as you. |
How super! When you pick a name for your machine, please share it with us. I name my Bernina 830, she is over 35 years old, Bernie, not too much of a stretch there; the newer Pfaff I named him Jean Luc, after the Star Trek guy. My really old Pfaff is named Aunt Ella, after an aunt who love to make quilts and do needlecraft. Take care of your baby and enjoy!!
|
How lovely for you and her.
|
Congratulations on your new baby. When is her Bday & what is her name? I wish you many many quilts with her.
|
she is great, I love them...someone on here (one of the guys) said you can shine them up with sewing machine oil and they just glow....
|
How fortunate you are! Oh and I agree....give her a name. Maybe name her after your grandmother or your friend's MIL. Let us know what you decide, I would love to know.
Wish I had one of those beauties. warm quilt hugs, sue in CA |
You will have to name her. Have a great time sewing on her.
|
Now, I'm feeling really guilty! The house we bought had the most beautiful Singer treadle machine I have ever seen. The table part with drawers didn't look that great, but the machine itself was beautiful and ornate. Are you ready for this?? We sold it to the inspection guy. He said he collects them. I didn't want to sell it, but money was an issue at that point. I've kinda been sick ever since.

you are very lucky. Penny

What a sweetie. You've reminded me that I have an old black machine in an old cabinet that is hiding under a stack of old bedspreads in my old sewing room. Guess what I'll be doing tomorrow.....thanx
|
Can I say.."I hate you!"
I am so jealous of anyone that owns a FW... I can never find a great deal or get one with that history...which I would love to have. Oh wells, good for you!!! Enjoy!!!! Kirsten |
In the early '60's I made all my clothes for high school
on a machine like the one shown. |
