I have a book (Encyclopedia of Classic Quilt Patterns, Oxmoor House) that lists this pattern as Star and Crescent, and says it is also known as Four Winds or Alaska Chinook.

I always find it interesting how many names a pattern can go by.

BTW - Congratulations on this fantastic find! I always hope I'll run across something like this, but never do.

Beautiful find and you can't beat the price. You can replace the border.

Wow good find

ConnieF 05-03-2010 11:03 PM

Wow waht a find? What are you going to do with it?
I asume new binding first. You found a blessing and it found you. If you hadn't turned around it might of gone in a dumpster.

How beautiful! You must have been mean't to have it, I am sure of that! So pretty I wonder what the pattern is? Do you happen to know?

Gal

Ooops! Just read the pattern info, thanks so much it is beautiful!

Butterflyblue 05-04-2010 07:48 AM

Wow, the more I think about this the more I want to try this pattern! I think this one is applique (just from what I can tell in the picture) but looking online and in my book, it seems like it can be done either pieced or applique.

Lucky, lucky you!

roseOfsharon 05-04-2010 08:37 PM

A very nice find indeed ... and for such a price! I am happy you found her and are giving her a home again! A little work on her and she will be like new again! Any idea how old she is??

windycitygal 05-04-2010 08:43 PM

Wonderful find! Just think you rescued that quilt from an uncertain doom. Your granddaughter can cuddle and love it. Please post again when you are finished with the boarder.

Tippy 05-04-2010 08:44 PM

I think I've seen it before named "stars and stirrups" also. It's a lovely "adoptee".

Oklahoma Suzie 05-05-2010 08:56 AM

real nice

RoxanneS 05-05-2010 10:18 PM

RoxanneS 05-07-2010 08:03 PM

This pattern....I am a new quilter and may try to find out if I can duplicate it....what is the name of the block, you found on the internet? (I am just silly enough to try a more difficult pattern as a "newbie".)
