Look what I whipped out yesterday and today

This is my interpretation of the BQ quilt. I was too cheap to buy the pattern, so I looked at all the pics on the Internet and came up with this. I've has the floral fabric forever and decided it was time to do something with it. It will have the same floral backing and binding. I plan to do a cross hatch on the floral squares, but don't know what to do on the rest. Any suggestions?

Love the pattern I wonder how many of use do as you do.
Lovely quilt. I'm waiting to hear suggestions. I have a BQ top of oriental prints waiting in the wings myself.

Lovely!! I really like the big block floral and the simplicity of the rest of the quilt shows off the floral!! Love it!!
You made a beautiful quilt. It is a very nice pattern.
Your quilt is lovely. I love the BQ pattern. I really admire you for figuring it out yourself. It's my go to pattern when I need something quick. And, of course, I always use the large blocks. The small ones would take a lot longer. Probably 2 days instead of 1.

I think a Babtist fan pattern would be lovely on this quilt. or a Clam shell but A Baptist fan pattern would be fabulous. The floral fabric looks very vintage and soft so a vintage quilting pattern would be very nice. It will also show up nice on the open areas of the quilt and give lovely texture, imho.
I love your quilt But don't recall what a BQ is, please inform me and make me smart:D! peace EDIT: When I say Baptist fan quilting pattern, I would do it over the entire quilt and not do crosshatching in the floral, just to be clear. I do love the top. peace |

Love your Quilt top! I am the same...I look at a pattern and figure it out. I don't like buying them or even the free ones...I hate reading patterns. Video patterns I can do.
Very nice.

Kama - BQ is the name of a pattern by Maple Island Quilts. They also have version 2, 3, and 4. Just google it and it will come right up for you.
Very nice quilt BTW, lovey for late spring, early summer. |
The fabrics make this really special. Beautiful quilt!
Your quilt is beautiful! I'm sorry to say that I'm absolutely no help with how to quilt it!
I like the colors and the pattern.
Oh is that petty.
Wow that came out so pretty, I love the colors! If it were me, I'd do feathers wherever I could, they would be perfect with the crosshatch you plan!
It's the perfect pattern for that floral. Beautiful.
The colors are really nice together. Looks like you figured correctly on the pattern...cause it looks great. Thanks for sharing.
I never new what a BQ was until now.....very pretty!
Not usually my choice of fabric but your quilt is very pretty. Like it a lot.
Awesome job!
Isn't it kinda fun to create your own design so we don't need to buy a pattern. Drafting your own is nothing new in the quilting world. Love your version.
I love it.
Very pretty BQ! I like your floral fabric-- I had it, as well as in greens and berry. :)
Looks great....
*** You did a great job.
Love the colors. |
Love your quilt and the color choices. AND I learned something new: BQ quilts. I had not heard that term before. Love learning new stuff!
Very pretty quilt.
Tried to google Maple Island Quilt and the message was no matches. I've got to make a Green Bay Packers Quilt and this would fill the bill
I recognize that fabric! I think it's at least 30 years old--and I think I still have some! I'll have to dig around and find it. You have inspired me with that beautiful quilt to do something with all my decades-old fabrics.
Oops! Re-googled and put patterns in and found it...By the way, love your quilt
I Googled it & found an episode of Sewing with Nancy about this pattern. My computer is very slow, so it showed for a little bit & it's buffering right now.
I love your quilt also. Perfect choices of coordinating fabrics!!!
I, too, love drafting my own patterns. It's a lot of fun being creative and coming up with something new and different. Of course, just because it's new to me, doesn't mean it's new in the quilting world. LOL But I have come up with a few patterns that no one has remembered seeing before, and that is really fun and exciting! |
