Marcia D 09-01-2011 10:18 AM

They must not know that Thanksgiving is less than two months away.

cathyquilty 09-01-2011 10:19 AM

cctx. 09-01-2011 10:30 AM

Wild Turkeys indeed.

Thanks for sharing.

Quilter7x 09-01-2011 10:33 AM

What a great picture. We had some in the winter that would come eat the sunflower seeds at the bird feeder because there wasn't much else for them to eat with all the snow we had this past winter.

blueangel 09-01-2011 10:36 AM

Hope they know Thanksgiving is coming.

pipp5 09-01-2011 11:05 AM

Oh, my husband would love to see that outside our window!

dltaylor 09-01-2011 11:06 AM

Did you keep any?? LOL

Murphy 09-01-2011 11:07 AM

These are so great. We don't see these wild very often. Thank you for sharing; what a lovely view.

quilttiludrop 09-01-2011 12:31 PM

There's quite a few wild turkeys here in the Lebanon, Oregon area too! We live only a couple of blocks from the Santiam River. A newspaper article last Fall reported about 200 turkeys in the area.

annthreecats 09-01-2011 12:32 PM

Yummy!!!

Monika 09-01-2011 12:35 PM

Cool!! We have some around here, bt they never get that close. Love it!

AUQuilter 09-01-2011 01:04 PM

What a view you have!

PaperPrincess 09-01-2011 01:30 PM

We have lots too. Our bird feeders are on a second story deck railing. They fly up and eat out of the feeders. It's a real shock looking out the window and seeing these huge birds on the railing.

Love the pic. They are such a beautiful Bird. They frequent my house too. When the light catches in the feathers there is not much that comes close to their beauty. Enjoy them!

PS: Yes. They are female turkeys and they are very attentive to their chicks and stay together for more than a year and then stay togther in the flock. Wonderful birds and at one time were considered for our national bird. They have many good trates. Loyal, smart, protective, gentle.
peace

grammiepamie 09-01-2011 01:39 PM

Aren't they cool? I had 18 hens in my backyard after a hurricane once (about 6 years ago). I had fun feeding them corn. Then without a warning they quit coming in.

Barbm 09-01-2011 01:46 PM

We have 2 "families" as we call them. They come through every day. I took pics of them in the hurricane. They went out for lunch. :)

I was looking at my flower garden and noticed they scratched in the one area, digging up some tulip bulbs. Bad turkeys!

We've had to wait in the driveway for the family to cross. Love our turkey families and watching the babies grow over the summer.

Tink's Mom 09-01-2011 02:28 PM

Which one did you pick to fatten up??? I'd go with the one in front....Gobble gobble....

b.zang 09-01-2011 02:31 PM

That's a great picture. Man, they are u-u-ugly! Delicious, though. My DH hopes to find some with the end of an arrow.

alaskasunshine 09-01-2011 02:44 PM

Goodness I had a lump in my throat, and had such a sigh of relief to see you had wild turkeys and not snow. Yeah for the turkeys!!!!! Now I feel so silly!

Ramona Byrd 09-01-2011 02:49 PM

Cover the breast with strips of bacon. Wrap ends of the legs in foil, cook at a slightly lower heat than commercially fattened ones. Add a touch more sage to the sausage dressing to counteract the wild taste....
Always (at least in the CA hills) check the gizzard for gold nuggets, turkeys and geese have been known to find them.

Phannie1 09-01-2011 02:50 PM

I love to see wildlife in the natural. What a gift.

kriscraft99 09-01-2011 02:50 PM

gosh I love nature :)

I am so glad I wasn't the only one picturing little gravy boats dispersed throughout that grouping!!

ScrapQuilter 09-01-2011 03:05 PM

I had 15 in the back yard........ think they were looking at my garden.

wolph33 09-01-2011 03:13 PM

so cool,we have turkeys here too

barbo117 09-01-2011 04:27 PM

Hold on a minute while I get the sauerkraut!! Hubby wanted to get a couple domestic baby turkeys this spring so we could raise them. After thinking about it I realized no way could I raise those little things and then have them for dinner. I'll buy my turkey in the supermarket, less personal that way!! Sure sign that season is getting ready to change.

Nettie Phillips 09-01-2011 06:02 PM

They better run. Thanksgiving is coming. Ha!

jeannie t 09-02-2011 04:10 AM

Love wildlife pics

catladyquilts 09-02-2011 04:11 AM

how cool

Yooper32 09-02-2011 04:49 AM

Aren't they something else? There are a lot of them around here and I keep an eye out to watch them. I call all the hens "Haggies", they just look like old hag ladies with their widow's weeds dragging around them. When the big gobbler shows up, now there is a display. Early in the spring, he escorted a young tom off his territory and it was about a half hour scenario, watching him move the younger along, then stop and display, gobble and start all over again. Between the turkeys and the deer, I am never too bored here.

merchjag 09-02-2011 04:50 AM

Run!!! Thanksgiving is coming!!!!

AprilG 09-02-2011 04:50 AM

Thanksgiving dinner on the "hoof"! I love to watch turkeys. But, don't get a lot of them around here. Actually, the only turkeys we see around here are in the grocery store. The neighbors down the road, do keep about 10 of them. Great shot.
