This is a quilt top that was made by my great grandmother in the 1960's. My mom has had it tucked away for the longest time and I just inherited it.
Each square is made with old squares from old clothes, and was sewn on a treddle sewing machine! I'm just so exstatic to have this in my home. I'm going to turn it into a wall hanging I think. What do you think? |
What a treasure to receive!
|
Lucky you! Congrats!
|
Oh how wonderful!!!!!!!! By the pic those fabrics look OLD !!!
What a treasure for you!!! So glad you have it :D:D |
I am just so excited...I did a happy dance when I got it! lol Mom has been talking about giving this to me for some time, and today when I actually got it, I think I almost cried!
|
Way to go! I'd be doing the happy dance too!
|
wow you are lucky to get such a nice piece in good shape!
|
What a wonderful treasure!!!!
As far as I know, I am the first woman in my family to quilt! |
A true treasure.
|
Wow...it must feel so good to have something like that. It is a treasure. Wall hanging sounds really good to show and preserve.
|
What a beautiful heirloom treasure :D:D:D
|
The blocks are old, but not too old. It was made in the early 1960's...so fifty years or so...but it's in such GREAT condition! I think I'll turn it into a wall hanging instead of an actual quilt. My family is hard on actual quilts and I don't want to risk this one! lol

Oh wow! How wonderful!

Does your mom remember any of the fabrics.Like did any come from her dresses or maybe her dad's shirts? It would be great if someone could recall some or all of the fabric then you could write it down and tuck it away for safe keeping. What a wonderful quilt to have. I'm glad you seem to know what you have and appreciate it. Mary

Great wallhanging with wonderful memories.

Good for you, I'm so glad your Mom gave it to you now rather than wait until something happens. Things have a way of getting lost. Now you can both enjoy it. Thanks for sharing, the pictures are great.

I will definitely post more pics as I get it done

This quilt was just waiting for the person who would treasure it as much as you seem to. I would love to have one of my Granny's lovely quilts. You are truly blessed.
|
Wow! Lots of memories!
|
You are fortunate to have a memory quilt and your DGGM is fortunate that you treasure the quilt.
We had a trunk show at our guild meeting this week. The quilter giving the presentation used the back of one of her wall hangings to journal. You could also use photo transfers of your DGGM and other family members. Would be neat if you had a photo of your mom in one of her dresses. That said, I really need to make journal type labels for the three quilts I have from my DM. Unfortunately, I did not write down all the information before she died and I remember only in part. |
I think it will be prettier with a decorative quilting pattern in those gray set-ups!
She was still using a treadle? The 1960's aren't THAT long ago -- most of us had electric machines well before then! |
Wow, a journal on the back of the quilt seems like a great idea! I think I'm going to just tie it together as my quilting leaves something to be desired and I don't want to ruin it.
The treddle is the only machine she had, so she was still using it. For her, the treddle was a novelty because she grew up stitching by hand. :-) |
It's lovely...you finish it up and it will look beautiful on your wall. Don't forget a label for the back...it's history and your finishing touches.
|
Truly awesome :D :D
|
Awesome, love the vintage look.
|
Beautiful work! You're so lucky to have it. You are blessed
