This quilt for my daughter has been a nightmare from the very start but I'm very close (thank the Lord!) to getting her completed. Problem #1......it was a project way over my head and experience level.
Problem #2.....it took hours and hours to piece onto my design wall and then my son accidently turned the fan on rotate and it blew all 1000+ pieces all over the place! I had previously posted a picture of her as a work in progress and am so glad I did because it helped me put it all back together again :)
Now I finally have it all machine pieced together and will have the columns/rows sewn together before tomorrow night's quilting class. Here are my questions for all of you. The pattern did not call for a border but for me to make it as big as my daughter requested (queen size) I either need to add a border(s) or add more rows. (The chances of me adding any more rows to this baby is slim to none! ) I'd like to have your opinion on which of following choices you like the best. FYI, the picture of the multicolored fabric for the one of the border choices doesn't do justice to have deep/pretty the purple/greens really are. The 2nd question I have is about the backing. My daughter has asked for flannel and picked out 2 colors, lime green or purple. There wasn't 7yrds of either so I picked up 3 1/2 yds of each. How would you go about combining the two colors? I've thought about stripes, making blocks and alternating colors in a checkerbox design or starting with a center block and alternating the colors in borders around the center block. Any other words of advice???? This board is such a great source of information and I really respect the opinions of all of you. Did I mention I want to have this figured out by tomorrow night? LOL. Thank you all for looking!

I think I would do the black, then the multi and bind with the black. It will be beautiful either way tho...

I think I like the peace border best.

I think that I like the first option. The second one is good, too.
Pretty quilt. Lots of work, but it's worth it to have something this nice when finished.

I like the one with the sayings :)

I agree.

I like the saying fabric, but it might be too busy and my second choice is the peace signs. Those two fabrics just seem to fit the feel of the quilt, kind of retro. I also like your idea for striping your backing, maybe making the stripes the same width as a row of blocks. Just my thoughts.

The border for me would depend on what colors I wanted to bring out in the quilt. The first will make those colors stand out more, the peace would definitely make the green stand out more. I do like the black small border first, no matter which other border you choose.
I would piece the back in the way that would show the least if it and the top are not lined up perfectly.
Just my opinions.

I would do the black first, then the multi-colour sayings border...I really like the peace border too.

For the backing, I'd probably strip piece it with large strips...or maybe a really big rail fence...

Then bind it in black.

Black with the multi or sayings and the back in 3 sections lengthwise or crosswise, 2 strips of one color and one strip of the second color and bind with the black. Great job on the quilt.
