lots of butterflies
I have to admit, by the time I got to the end of this quilt - I was tired of butterflies!

Lovely quilt!

What a pretty quilt.

It's very cute! I know my daughter would love it. I have been collecting butterfly fabric, but I haven't had a clear plan for using it. This gives me ideas. You did a wonderful job.

Thanks for the nice comments!
When I put this on the frame, my husband asked "who is that one for" I told him this one I made for myself. His reply "Good". I collected different butterfly fabric for a few years with no real plan what I would do - and then I found the butterfly block and went that route. For them, I selected fabric that so I could match the wings as much as possible, just digging through my stash and pulling out anything that looked like it would work. I cut a top and bottom set of wings out of each fabric, then mixed and matched them - and ended up with about 80 butterflies. I appliqued the body - and used a satin stitch for around the body and the antennae. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psdhktwgbd.jpg I had originally planned on a king size quilt, but I did not have enough of the light pink I'd used to make the butterflies, and did not like how it looked using something different for the sashing. So in the end, I made a smaller quilt and gave the extra butterfly blocks to a friend. |
That is very pretty, love your choice of fabric colors.
|
Great job!
|
When that happens to me, I increase the width of the sashing and the border. The quilt came out very nice. Sounds like your husband is a keeper. Glad you are keeping it. It is a work of art.

Oh that is absolutely gorgeous. I dearly love butterflies, but don't like paper piecing, so this is not in my future. But it is about the most fabulous butterfly quilt I've seen. Thanks for sharing.
|
Lots of butterflies is right! I like how you interspersed the pieced butterfly blocks with some fabulous butterfly fabric.
|
Belfrybat I do a lot by finding a picture I like and coming up with a pattern. I did not know this was "suppose" to be paper pieced so I came up with a pattern that didn't require paper piecing. I did not like the ones that had the body pieced (looked to chunky to me) so I made them without the body and appliqued a cutout on top. It was one of the simpler blocks I've done.
|
Thank you for the explanation of how you made the butterflies. I couldn't tell from the original picture whether they were pieced or not. This quilt came out really lovely, well worth the time to find and modify the design and select the fabrics.
