No, this isn't nearly as cute as the "Puppy Dreams" or kitty cat ("You're an Animal"). I doubt this one will get any votes in the contest. I just wanted to do something colorful. I can't post the picture I worked from because it doesn't belong to me. The background is a Laurel Burch fabric.

Quilt4u 09-29-2009 04:15 AM

I love it. Blue ribbon for sure.

jdavis 09-29-2009 04:44 AM

I doubt it, Quilt4u, but I'll let you know!

Ninnie 09-29-2009 04:46 AM

I really like the birds!

jdavis 09-29-2009 04:49 AM

Thank you, Ninnie!

jdavis 09-29-2009 04:51 AM

Thank you, Loretta!

Esqmommy 09-29-2009 05:02 AM

Really cute, and I would say it's a winner!!!

As far as posting photos...if you are posting a photo, and you are not trying to profit off of it, isn't that okay? Perhaps not, I'm not clear on those rules.

sewnsewer2 09-29-2009 05:07 AM

Well, I think it is very pretty!

pocoellie 09-29-2009 05:08 AM

Very pretty!!

jdavis 09-29-2009 05:14 AM

Well, I don't know all the rules either. I can tell you where the photo came from, but I don't think I could figure out how to create a link.
But if you are ever tired of this board, here is a wonderful site to check out: www.pixdaus.com
If you search on Love Birds, you will see the picture I used.
I found the site when someone sent me an e-mail with a whole bunch of pictures, and one of them had a sort of water mark of the site name. I haven't had the time to find the photo I was looking for (I wanted to maybe find the photographer and buy a print). I'm still stuck on the category "Bridge" which has some of the most awesome photos I've ever seen. Hundreds and hundreds of photos, just of bridges! Photos are submitted by people all over the world. There are also vintage photos. Search on any subject and see what you find!

Bevanger 09-29-2009 05:15 AM

well i personally love it and i think it'll get noticed

jdavis 09-29-2009 05:32 AM

Thanks Beverly,
That's really big of you, since you are obviously a dog lover!

k3n 09-29-2009 05:46 AM

I went and had a look at the pic and I think this is another great job! The expression in the eye of the bird on the left is wonderful - he looks all dreamy and loved up! :D

jdavis 09-29-2009 06:10 AM

K3n, what an imagination you have!
Did you check out anything else while you were there at pixdaus?

k3n 09-29-2009 06:16 AM

Yes I searched on 'animals' there are some beautiful photos - the animal love ones are cute - the swans making a heart shape and the elephants with their trunks. There were also some really awesome ones of a guy with lions - the lion whisperer it said! :D

k3n 09-29-2009 06:20 AM

I'm looking at more pages but my internet is really slow and they take ages to load! Thanks for sharing this, they're beautiful! Isn't the world a GREAT place! :D

jdavis 09-29-2009 06:22 AM

I'm so glad you checked it out, K3n!
Let me know if you ever spot the one of the rooster, crossing a plank bridge over a ditch, while his harem of hens wait up on the bank.
That's the one I want to locate and, hopefully get a real print of.

jdavis 09-29-2009 06:23 AM

Waiting to load is a real bummer. Did you try changing the number of photos per page?

k3n 09-29-2009 06:39 AM

No, I just leave it loading then go do something else! I've seen loads of chickens but no sign of your rooster yet!

RedGarnet222 09-29-2009 06:50 AM

Very nice job on the love birds. I like it very much.

Ducky 09-29-2009 06:52 AM

Love the birds. I am a dog lover and like the dog dreams one better. But this one is every bit as nice. :D

Joan 09-29-2009 07:07 AM

Love that Laurel Burch fabric---it's just perfect for those parrots!
You've got the touch...........

jdavis 09-29-2009 07:52 AM

Thank you all,

That's really pretty!

liwilliams 09-29-2009 02:25 PM

Oh JDavis, this is wonderful. I love the background fabric, it totaly sets your birds off. You did a great job.

Linda

sewjoyce 09-29-2009 04:41 PM

I really like it!!

Pea Soup 09-29-2009 05:07 PM

Great work! Love the colors. The birds looks so well done.

tuesy 09-29-2009 05:12 PM

This is so pretty and vibrant!! I'm afraid this would be the only type of birds I'll ever have... 3 cats ya know..

jdavis 09-30-2009 04:06 AM

Thank you all!
I hope this block is as well received by the recipient of the finished quilt.
I imagine the quilt will consist largely of cat and dog blocks, so this should add variety if nothing else.
I'm dropping off this last block today, and I guess voting starts next week.
I believe I get to vote on the blocks, too!

sandpat 09-30-2009 05:10 AM

Love the birds...I think you did a great job!

littlehud 09-30-2009 06:17 PM

I think it's great. What wonderful use of color and the birds are so sweet.

Marcia 09-30-2009 06:27 PM

That is colorful---and really cute!

amma 09-30-2009 06:31 PM

I love it!!! Your birds really stand out beautifully on that awesome background fabric :D :D :D

jdavis 10-01-2009 04:01 AM

Thank you all!
After I finished, I did question whether I had made the right decision on the background. It's nice to get the positive feedback. I was going to work in a heart shaped frame, but I couldn't find a combination of fabrics that I liked, I didn't want to embroider it, and I was running out of enthusiasm!

Moonpi 10-01-2009 07:18 AM

My most memorable experience with lovebirds - when I stayed in the Poconos years ago, Mount Airy Lodge had a whole glassed-in aviary full of lovebirds in the ladies' room lounge!

It was so unexpected! Outside the door, men would try peeking in to see them. I wonder if they still have it.
