Wallhanging with appliqued sheep. It's got an "old time, Americana" feel to it. It was in a Fons & Porter issue with other Valentine's Day projects.

I see various quilt projects with chickens from time to time, but does anyone else love sheep like I do?

If I were to do this again, I would chose a slightly darker fabric for the sheep so there is more contrast against the background.

Very lovely. I love sheep and the hearts really set it off.

pittsburgpam 04-07-2010 06:24 AM

Now that is cute!! I love it and I do like sheep. Great job.

I'm planning one now with hearts in it, probably not sheep though. :-P

Ducky 04-07-2010 06:25 AM

That is so sweet. Yes, I love sheep, too. You did a wonderful job!

I love sheep also, and as my husband is a pastor sheep have been a fovorite of mine for a long time, I also collect churches.

Bevanger 04-07-2010 06:31 AM

I sew love this one. GREAT JOB!

SaraSewing 04-07-2010 06:33 AM

I love this quilt. Yes, I love sheep. Raising doggie lambs as a kid is what paid my way through college years later. (I had a smart dad!) My mom is 87 and still has a few sheep.

DebraK 04-07-2010 06:36 AM

this is so darn precious!

Candace 04-07-2010 06:40 AM

SuzyM 04-07-2010 07:25 AM

You did an amazing job. I hope it is hanging on your wall where everyone can see.

Marjpf 04-07-2010 07:27 AM

That is wonderful. I think all your fabric choices were perfect. Would you like to make me one?

feline fanatic 04-07-2010 07:32 AM

OMG that is just too, too cute. I love it! The colors you chose are perfect. I think the sheep stand out just fine against the background. I would definitely make this quilt.

Can you elaborate what applique method you used? Is it fusible or needle turn? I can do fusible but I am really awful at needle turn and I am equally bad with freezer paper method where you press under the seam allowance. I just have so much trouble getting nice clean edges. Once they are turned under for me I have no problem hand appliqueing them on. Fusible I can do very easily and do a satin stitch or blanket stitch around the raw edge. I also love the swag border treatment so let me know how you did that too, if you did it different then the sheep.

RedGarnet222 04-07-2010 07:41 AM

What a lovely band of sheep. The border is exceptional with the banner running around it. This one is just really special, indeed. And yes .. I like sheep too.

QuiltingGrannie 04-07-2010 07:43 AM

quiltsRfun 04-07-2010 08:27 AM

JenniePenny 04-07-2010 03:44 PM

Thanks everyone. This was in Jan/Feb. 2009 Fons & Porter magazine.
I used fusible applique for the sheep, hearts, and the swag around the border.

You did a really great job on this quilt  I think you did an excellent job on picking your material and agree with sewnsewer2 that the sheep look "wooly". I especially like the folk art / Americana look it has. A+ in my book. Thanks so much for sharing your BaaBaa sheep with us.

When my granddaughter, mary was about 2 years old, I bought her a book about a little lamb that was lost from her woolly mother. Mary couldn't say "mother" and said "woolly mulla" It stuck. My whole family calls all sheep "woolly mullas" and yes we love them. I even have "woolly mulla ears" (Lamb's Ear) planted in my garden. A silly story, but I couldn't resist.

I absolutely love your quilt!!

Ginny 04-09-2010 12:07 PM

I love the sheep on the light background. It's a subtle surprise rather than a bold statement. It is darling just the way it is and I wouldn't change a thing

wvdek 04-09-2010 12:11 PM

How c-ewe-t is that?

nannya54 04-09-2010 01:32 PM
