Luv'n Ladybugs

4 Attachment(s)
I've been wanting to do a black/white/red quilt and when a family friend told me they using a ladybug theme for their daughter's new "big girl" room, I jumped at the chance to make her a quilt. Win-Win

I was having trouble get ALL the seams to match, so I used a decorative stitch around the diamonds formed by the white corners of each block to hide any not-quite-matching seams, and I fussy cut ladybugs from one of the fabrics and centered them in the diamonds for the same reason. The blocks were quilted with a simple triple-flower motif using my Viking 600E embroidery machine, and then I stitched-in-the-ditch around each square and the borders.

My favorite part is the Ladybug Alphabet I found at Embroidery Library that I used to embroider the new big-sister's name on the outer border.

The backing is a flannel I found that matched one of the fabrics I used.

This is the first quilt that I've quilted myself. I liked using the embroidery machine for the quilt motifs...

Hope you like it!

I used Sulky tear away in the hoop, then used spray adhesive to hold each block in place on top of the hoop & stabilizer

"Hope we like it"? Well, no, I don't like it. I LOVE IT! My Mother always called me "Ladybug" so I have a soft spot for them to begin with. This is too, too, too cute! I love your fabrics (polka dots are always fun & are perfect for this little gem) & the quilting is adorable! Claire is one lucky little lady! Great job!!!

debcavan 08-03-2012 01:13 AM

I loved it seeing the overall effect and then I started seeing the details and loved it more. The Claire with the ladybugs is too darling and such a nice touch. Then I spotted the lady bug fabric. I love all the dots too

busygranny 08-04-2012 07:13 AM

I am so envious of everyone doing all over quilting on their embroidery machine. I have a Viking Topaz embroidery machine. Can some one tell me how to use my machine to do that? I do not get much help at my dealer. By the way your quilt is stunning and wish I could do it.

northern lass 08-04-2012 07:17 AM

Beautiful quilt

goodwitch 08-04-2012 07:22 AM

I love Black/White/Red quilts. Adding the grey really worked for this pattern. The appliqued Ladybugs were a great touch. The Ladybug letters are the perfect finishing touch. Would you share the quilt pattern name or the pattern source? Great work!
