Made this just because

I cannot. Stop. Quilting. Having no reason to make a quilt didn't deter me from making this one. I used the Abundance Pattern by Jeni Baker for Art Gallery Fabrics. They're site has so many great free patterns. Now I don't know what to do with it. I love it, and there aren't too many mistakes, maybe I should try selling it? What do you do with the quilts that you make for the sake of quilting?

marilynr 09-19-2015 12:04 PM

There are so many charities that need quilts of all kinds.
I enjoy making baby quits & donating them. Find your niche.

sewingitalltogether 09-19-2015 12:06 PM

Put them in every room in the house and start a decorative stack in the family room to show your progress. Plus give one to everyone in the family. Then you can start the winter vs summer quilts.
Very nice quilt. Lay it on the back of your couch.

Quilts of Valor, Prayers and Squares, Project Linus, Alzheimers' Association. . .many more wonderful charities. I just saw a group sending some to victims of wildfires. If you are a member of a local quilt guild, they'll most likely have a philanthropy committee or focus. I've made about 280 quilts in the last 3 years, and have kept only 5 of them in my family. It's what I love most about quilting, . . that it's creative, I get so much pleasure, and yet it's useful to others.

ManiacQuilter2 09-19-2015 01:24 PM

I give them to charities. There was a post here of a Northern CA group collecting quilts for the fire victims.

tatavw01 09-19-2015 01:34 PM

Love the color

Sharonquilts 09-19-2015 02:23 PM

Lovely quilt!

I primarily donate my quilts to a local assisted living center. However, as someone else noted, there are so many charities, etc. You could donate to your local Women's Shelter, Habitat, check with your local Fire Dept. to see if they know of anyone who just lost their home. Also as mentioned, the folks in CA. who have lost their homes to fire. Be careful, tough. You just might find a new "calling" to keep you quilting. Ha.

Trapunta 09-19-2015 03:34 PM

It's beautiful! No reason to stop quilting. You will find a place for it: charities, friends, wall hangings, there are lots of possibilities.

cjsews 09-19-2015 03:35 PM

I have made several that I just did not want to part with. Something or everything was just right. They usually hang on a quilt rack or find their way into the cedar chest. If someone wants to buy a quilt I have one ready and may be ready to part with it. This funds my hobby so I can make more. I do sew for charity but some I just cannot part with.

QM 09-19-2015 03:41 PM

Good job. Do what makes you happy. I normally donate to foster children, although my guild is currently working for victims of a local forest fire

toverly 09-19-2015 03:47 PM

Great quilt, such a simple idea, looks wonderful. Now I know what to do with all those scrappy squares. Good job.

mucky 09-19-2015 04:40 PM

Find an excuse to give to a friend or donate to charity

QUILTNMO 09-19-2015 04:44 PM

very nice quilt!!!

djmat 09-19-2015 04:45 PM

Quilts of Valor gives quilts to in hospital military personnel. Just another way to say "Thank you for your service" to them. Your quilt is so lovely it really will make someone very happy to receive it! Way to go! Oh, and don't stop!
hugs,
dj

I know one quilter who makes quilts for Habitat for Humanity. She is also a volunteer. She gets to meet the recipient/owner of the new home. This gives her ideas for colors and their other interests. She gives it to the owner right after closing. She also has everyone who works at the project a square to sign. Then she puts a label on the back with the owner's name and month and year the home was established.

JuneBillie 09-19-2015 07:58 PM

Beautiful quilt, and so many wonderful ideas for making many more.:)

QuiltingCrazie 09-19-2015 08:43 PM

Keep it and just enjoy it!! I have donated quilts to causes but I can't afford to do that all the time. It's ok to enjoy your creations!! I know everyone says donate but I say quilting is a gift, not everyone can do it... Enjoy your art!

earthwalker 09-19-2015 08:50 PM

It's a beauty.....all good ideas from the others. Hang on to it if it makes you happy. Just keep quilting:)

sinceresissy 09-20-2015 04:19 AM

So far I've been able to gift mine to friends. I have a couple that I hung on my bedroom wall. I made some baby quilts and was going to give those to a hospital but my sister wanted them to give when her grandchildren start having babies. I wouldn't mind gifting to a charity. I just don't have one in mind yet.

Your quilt is lovely by the way.

Belfrybat 09-20-2015 04:24 AM

I really like your quilt -- neat way the crosses pop out.
When I make a quilt "just because" I usually donate it to charity.
I have a dozen "just because" tops ready to finish.

Gail B 09-20-2015 04:50 AM

Great quilt. Thanks for telling us where to find the pattern.

tranum 09-20-2015 04:52 AM

Here we have "Furniture Mission" where people donate gently used furniture. They will gladly accept quilts. Imagine getting a bed with a colorful quilt to go with it.

Homespun 09-20-2015 06:10 AM

Love your quilt.

joym 09-20-2015 07:31 AM

CHARITIES........especially Quilts Beyond Borders and Native American reservations.

RedGarnet222 09-20-2015 07:35 AM

I think you should keep it and put away until you have a need for a sweet gift. It always seems to be something that comes up that you wish you had a nice gift to give, but it is last minute and no time to make something nice like this one is.

Mariposa 09-20-2015 07:36 AM

A fun scrappy! Enjoy the process.....you'll find a home for it soon. Whether on your couch, a gift, or donation.

tammyg 09-20-2015 12:37 PM

Very nice...love it.....

ube quilting 09-20-2015 01:15 PM

I quilt because I love to do it, no other reason. The ones I don't give away, I use, surprise, surprise! They keep me warm, decorate my walls and keep my mind alive and growing and creative.
peace

joyce888 09-20-2015 01:22 PM

Very pretty quilt. Because you enjoy it is reason enough to quilt.

twinkie 09-21-2015 03:48 AM

What an interesting pattern. I love this.

Kris P 09-21-2015 03:53 AM

I've found that when I make a quilt 'just because' it doesn't stay in the house long. It has a purpose, but it just hasn't revealed itself to me yet. I recently had just such a quilt. Then, my cousin lost her oldest and youngest children in an auto accident. It very quickly became apparent to me that this quilt was the perfect memory quilt for them. I sent it, along with a permanent fabric marker with a letter instructing them to write memories of Josh and Caleb in the white squares. She sent back the most touching thank you note that their 16 year old daughter had taken it on as her project and was receiving comfort and healing from this quilt.

I'm so glad I made this quilt just because, I never would have been able to piece, quilt and ship a quilt to them in 6 days. Keep quilting, just because!

WMUTeach 09-21-2015 05:43 AM

Almost all of my quilts are made just because i want to give the pattern a try. I give them away. First I fold them, give them a pat and put them away. Someone always comes to mind who really "needs" a quilt and I have one ready. I listen to that still small voice and I have never been lead astray.

Lovely work by the way. I like the simplicity of the pattern and and nice calm choice of colors.

quiltmaker52 09-21-2015 06:19 AM

When it comes to charities, please don't forget your local police and fire departments. They have always been thrilled to receive quilts.

jclinganrey 09-21-2015 06:42 AM

Very cool, Lee. There's nothing wrong with making quilts for the simple joy of- - - making quilts. If you want to donate them, fine. Give them away, okay too. Keep them, great!

BTW - I didn't see any paisley in there - - - lol

Taughtby Grandma 09-21-2015 08:02 AM

I like this quilt, great stash buster. I make quilts for just because all the time, then when someone comes over and they love it I give it to them. I don't usually keep a quilt for very long.

ShirlinAZ 09-21-2015 08:13 AM

Your quilt is lovely. I only make quilts "just because". Even when I make a quilt for a family member it is "just because" I love you and I love to make quilts. I never quilt anything because I have to. I'm one of 7 kids and I made lap quilts for my parents, all my siblings, and all their spouses and I made them "just because" I wanted to.

broomstix 09-21-2015 08:41 AM

There is one very important person in your lap. save it for her hope chess.
memories are made this way.

Friday1961 09-21-2015 09:09 AM

I love this quilt! Don't know if you used scraps but it gives me a great idea for mine!

Good suggestions on what to do with your creations. Not to worry -- you will find lots of takers!

Lol. Your purple paisley is being used right now. I'll post a pic when finished!
