Magic 9 Patch - the next generation

Saw the tutorial for this a couple days ago and decided to give it a try. I thought all the 7" squares were supposed to be the same fabric (the tan) , but maybe not. ?

grrr. where's the pic

nursie76 11-06-2011 01:01 PM

Do you have a link or pic of what you having trouble with?

picture now?

What is it you are unhappy with? I think the colors play together very nicely. Here is a link to the directions to one variation.

Well I like it...colors too!

moonwork42029 11-06-2011 02:47 PM

The link says "scrappy" but I think you're on to something pretty special.

Jim's Gem 11-06-2011 02:58 PM

Pretty blocks!

SWEETPEACHES 11-06-2011 02:59 PM

I've now realized all those tan pieces were supposed to be different colors. And I used a batik that I bought to make myself a skirt! grr. oh well, it's not too late to either continue with the tans or start changing the 7" sqaures to different colors. I can always use 7" tan batiks in something else..

Lindsey 11-06-2011 03:00 PM

I like the pattern ... I think yours is going to turn out excellent..

Here's another picture. Should I continue with the tan batiks or stop and continue with a mixture of other fabrics.

hannajo 11-06-2011 03:38 PM

Very pretty pattern! And I love the brights next to the tan. It gives my eyes time to breathe.

LyndaOH 11-06-2011 03:38 PM

I like it with the tans, but I think it would be fine with other colors too. I know - I'm not a big help! I do like this version.

kclausing 11-06-2011 03:45 PM

This is a very unique pattern, can't wait to see it when its done

lynnegreen 11-06-2011 03:48 PM

I like the tans, I would continue in this manner if it were mine. I though happen to like this color of tan as a neutral in quilts.

G'ma Kay 11-06-2011 05:03 PM

I like the tans. It makes the other colors pop.

nursie76 11-06-2011 05:39 PM

I really like the effect of the tan batiks with the brights. However, you have to do it the way that speaks to you.

traveler53 11-06-2011 05:44 PM

I would stay with the tan batiks. It is going to look really nice.

cmagee84 11-06-2011 05:50 PM

Ultimately, you have to be happy with your choices. If you like it, then go for it. IMHO, it looks like the tan overpowers the other fabrics instead of acting like a background. Like I said, just my opinion. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

4EVERquilt 11-06-2011 06:51 PM

I'm liking this!!

Jingle 11-06-2011 06:55 PM

I like it just as you have it laid out, I think it will be a beautiful quilt.

QUILTNMO 11-06-2011 06:58 PM

neat block thanks to who posted link to pattern

Pattigail 11-06-2011 08:55 PM

I say continue with the tan. I don't know what you did, but I really like it!

Mariposa 11-06-2011 09:17 PM

Either way will be terrific! :)

greensleeves 11-06-2011 09:21 PM

Earlier this year we did this quilt at my guild, it was a free pattern at the time. It was fun and interesting to see the different ways people chose their fabrics. Some used all the same colors for the 7" as you have. Some went totally scrappy and everything in between. By the way, all of them were fantastic. With this pattern I don't know how you could go wrong. I like what you have done so far.

quiltlady 11-06-2011 09:24 PM

Stick with the tan batik. Looks good. I like it.
You'll find these are addictive and will get a chance to do another with more colors.

Lisabet 11-06-2011 11:14 PM

I like it where can I source the pattern?

Lady-T 11-07-2011 03:06 AM

I like it!! It's going to be a beautiful quilt when you finish - Be sure and let us all see

chairjogger 11-07-2011 03:06 AM

heather1949 11-07-2011 03:06 AM

I think its lovely just like you have it...its going to be lovely.

SueDor 11-07-2011 03:29 AM

I think I would just keep it this way. I like it!

Yooper32 11-07-2011 03:41 AM

The beige gives the eyes a resting place. I really like it as you have it. Would give my eye-teeth for that beige batik fabric.

Cacklinghen 11-07-2011 03:42 AM

I love it-scrappy and all those colors..very nice

blueangel 11-07-2011 04:16 AM

I love it like that.

Lindsey 11-07-2011 04:20 AM

I like it with the brown/tan.. However I like the one with the scrappy colors too. Its your quilt your decision in the end..

knlsmith 11-07-2011 04:40 AM

That is so neat!

Highmtn 11-07-2011 05:00 AM

This is POSITIVELY great! I love the colors you've picked too!

There's another variation floating around where they have developed a pinwheel look in the center. If I can locate that I'll post the link to it. Another mind boggling variation.

Our quilt club went crazy with the original "Disappearing Nine Patch"! We played with that for almost a year. This one is going to make them CRAZY (again).

Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this!

Gator 11-07-2011 05:17 AM

I like it, something different then the traditional black.
