Stunning design and colours...can't wait to see the finished result...I am "border challenged" so am learning a lot on this thread.

quilter1962 08-02-2009 12:44 AM

Ninnie

Your quilt is beautiful - you have given me an idea of what I can do with some FATS I have just hanging around in my stash - thanks.

With regards to the border remeber now that I am no expert however I think you should first add a plain border & then I would go with your HST blocks on the top row on the left.
Can't wait to see it finished.

Ninnie, i love your quilt. it is beautiful. I go with cutebuns on the boarder. Something plain first then a zig zag.
You sure did give us all a good idea for our scraps.

mcdaniel023 08-02-2009 03:24 AM

What a great quilt. I have to bookmark this one. Can't wait for the finished pictures.

Bevanger 08-02-2009 04:43 AM

Oh wow! That is Beautiful.

Harmony 08-02-2009 07:19 AM

What a great scrappy quilt! I love how the colors pop against the white muslin! Looks pretty easy, too!

zennia 08-02-2009 02:31 PM

I just found this while looking around. Its another idea for boarder. Scroll down a bit.

The center is completed now!I added one more row of 16" squares and it now measures 48" by 64". I am going to add a 6" border on all sides , so It will, when done measure 60" by 76". which I think will be fine for a lap quilt for the den.
Still thinking about designs for the border, but have a few written down, so still need help!

Each 16" block has what I consider pinning points, some quilters don't pin, but I am a ig believer in pinning.

Here is the center finished, was smoother that this, but Mortimer went through and left his prints! :D :D

Hi, Ninnie, just checked in to monitor your progress, and it's looking really good - I like the larger size, even though it was more work.

Shemjo 08-05-2009 08:41 AM

Very nice! I pin to match points, too; it's an obsession!

QuiltingWithMissy 08-05-2009 08:44 AM

I made one of those too. In purple and black.

Great work there Ninnie, youhave way more patience than I do to pin so much, plus I end up sticking myself more often than not. I don't like to bleed on my projects.

cutebuns 08-05-2009 08:55 AM

BTW, it is looking spectacular!

Dittoes!
I read a couple of points on "23 ways to stress free quilting" or something like that .... the FIRST one was:
Deep six the Perfection bug
I KNEW I liked that lady from the get go! LOL

I do have to admit, however, that I so appreciate looking at the good results of people who take their time <G>

cutebuns 08-05-2009 10:18 AM

I think for some that would be more stressful that doing it the way that they need to to get the look that they want, how many do you hear stressing over that they want their points etc, and if they don't appear, they want to chuck it. Stress comes in all forms, Especially those with a little ocd, it would just about kill them to do it a different way. Me, I am not that way, it would be very stressfull to pin and pin and pin and take that long, I appericiate those that do take their time, their work usually looks just that much better for it.

Ducky 08-05-2009 10:28 AM

Ninnie, that is soooooo beautiful!!! OMG, I really love it. Now I can't wait to do one......unless, of course, you'd consider sending me yours.

cutebuns 08-05-2009 10:49 AM

I think Ninnie should make us all one, yup I do.

Totally understand what you are saying. I do agree with appreciating the unique personality aspect that HAS to have perfection. When I married hubby, he was a cabinet maker (his real love) and measured things in 1/32 of an inch! No way I was going to mess with perfection <g>.
I have a little ocd, but it doesn't affect me like Monk or my brother. But, I TOTALLY understand seeing things that many people overlook.

Don't worry, dear Ninnie, you are doing JUST FINE!

Evelynquilts 08-05-2009 12:57 PM

Thank you for the pictures and link...I really like it.... :-)

Ducky, billswife99, cutebuns, and amma?    Ok. O wo;;add those to my bucket list of things to do before I die, but wouldn't it be a lot quicker if each one of youmade your own? I mean, you see how slow I am!

Iluv2quilt 08-05-2009 04:40 PM

kd124 08-05-2009 04:49 PM

Beautiful quilt. I like the upper left for a border or just one row of half square triangles between two solids. Thank you for the link--adding to my list. Can't wait to see what you end up doing for the border.

Esqmommy 08-05-2009 05:16 PM

I used some of everyone's fabric, and some of my own to balance out the darks and mediums. their are at least 40 different fabrics in the middle, and there will be more in the borders!

Could you pick out any of yours?

I wonder how many others have found their fabric?
Keep watching, there will be more pieces in the border than in the center!
