LOL Ninnie

It's OK I can wait I am a very patient person I did say I would like it so I can snuggle up in it whilst I watch "White Christmas" on TV. Now I didn't say which Christmas LOL

Now a question for you Ninnie - the calico you used was it a light, medium or a heavy weight cotton. I would love to make it one of these days when I have enough scraps.

Tisha :P

Ninnie 08-07-2009 09:02 AM

Which calico do you mean? the background is made up of high grade muslin,if that is what you are looking at, It is what gives it the old fashioned look!

Our Muslin over here is very sheer I think maybe what you call Muslin we refer to as Calico - we are going to need a dictionary between us LOL. So I am assuming that you are using calico. If you can nudge me in the right direction as to where you got it maybe I can take a look.
I adore the effect it gives your quilt, as you said a sort of vintage look.

Just check on line at most fabric shops. I get mine from a friend who owns a curtain shop, she orders it by the bold. I think it's called Kona cotton, It is very soft to hand quilt and holds stitches beautifully!

Ninne

ty - I'll browse the net & see what results I get. I'm off to The Festival of Quilts here in the UK on the 20th so I can compare prices there too. Thanks again.

Each 16" block has 18 triangles, you should have 9 triangles in this quilt!

The best I can do , BW is put you on that long list!
The border will have mostly new pieces, not a lot of repeats, want to see how many different ones I can use in it!
Started cutting out yesterday, and will do more today, hope to be ready to sew by tomorrow!

Iluv2quilt 08-08-2009 06:36 AM

Ninnie, I've been reading this thread but may have missed where the pattern for this lovely quilt is. I really love yours and I need to use up my scraps, can you help me?

Joan 08-08-2009 06:44 AM

Ninnie, what a beautiful quilt!

You are so industrious to make use of all those FQs so soon, too!

The muslin really sets off all of the "scraps"!

(p.s.--don't give this one away, save it and enjoy it! )

Sheila Elaine 08-08-2009 07:46 PM

This is a great pattern. Looks like it would go quickly, which is my style quilt. Thanks for posting.

Iluv2quilt 08-08-2009 09:07 PM

Thanks Ninnie! I appreciate it! (just read page 1 again and found it  )

Ninnie 08-24-2009 02:12 PM

Here is the finished top!! :D :D :D I have been a little side tracked, so it has taken longer than it should have. It ended up measuring 64 " by 80" which is plenty big enough for a lap quilt for the Den this winter1 Now I will place it in my floor frame and quilt it, which is the part I enjoy the most!

the stars in the corners are called Indian Stars, which I thought was appropriate!! :D :D

To those of you who "donated " FQs to this project , I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will make a label with all of your names on it to place on the back when I am done quilting it!

Tisha

Thanks, Tisha, it is just a scrappy quilt, with no planning of the colors.
Your eye does not look at a color, but rather at the whole, and that is what I love about scrappy quilts! :D :D

cutebuns 08-24-2009 02:43 PM

that is great, looks good. when is mine going to get here?

gaigai 08-24-2009 02:58 PM

That's an awesome quilt top!!

Mousie 08-24-2009 05:17 PM

Ninne, it IS gorgeous, and not only am I a great admirer of your work, but your ability to stay on track. You made short work of this!
I don't see any of my fq's in there...oh yeah, I wasn't in mare stare swap! (janey come late-ly! )

joy 08-24-2009 07:57 PM

I haven't read all of the info. but I believe you don't sew straight down the drawn line but a smidgeon to one side i.e. the side that is nearest the corner.... just a very small fraction, about a thread width... I have had plenty of practice doing these and still can't get all of them right.... but I will keep on keeping on.

sharon b 08-24-2009 08:37 PM

I don't know how I missed all this but it is wonderful ! And no I can't find my fabric , but I trust it is in there somewhere  What a great job and a wonderful memento to remember us all by  and the fun of mare stare :D

And i want to join the growing wish list of " I want one !"

The directions call for sewing right on the line. If you sewed past the line, you would have to trim all of your blocks, and there wouldn't be as much color showing either. I pin everything.  It's the only way I can get the points to match up , and I am sure ther are probably some that don't , but you would have to look pretty close!

Oh, Ninnie, I love it. Scrappy quilts are just so wonderful.

burnsk 09-05-2009 06:04 PM

Ninnie - Love your quilt. I just bought some prewashed muslin - do you think it will be OK to use prewashed muslin?

Remember years ago at craft stores you could buy prepackaged squares (4, 5 or 6 inch) with directions on how to sew them all together in rows to make a quilt. Well, guess what I found at a garage sale? There's probably 250 floral 5" squares, all different fabrics. I thought I could cut them criss-cross into 2 1/2 inch squares to make the Hatchet. I just love all your fabrics.

Thanks, glad you like it!
I used washed muslin in this quilt.
I love the old fashioned look to using it, so I say go for it!!
And I will be watching for pictures! :D :D :D
the more fabrics you use, the prettier it turns out!

burnsk 09-05-2009 06:55 PM

So, if I cut these into 2 1/2 inch squares then I need to cut the muslin into 4 1/2 inch squares. I think that's right.

And if I used 3 inch squares I would need to cut the muslin into 5 inch squares? Just wondering because I just found a bunch of 6 inch squares in the bottom of a drawer that I haven't seen in a very long time. Can't even remember why I have them. I think they're leftovers from projects that I squared up for later. And now is later (LOL). They're all very light so maybe I'll use a leafy green for the big squares in this one. I have a pretty mottled green with a small, scrolly leaf pattern.
